Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)

RGS-LogoThe Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) is the learned society and professional body for geography and geographers. Along with lectures and events around the UK, we organise field trips and run projects including Discovering Britain. This is a series of 100 brand new walks around the UK designed to help people explore and understand the beautiful and diverse landscapes we have right on our doorstep.

From the mountains and glens of the Scottish Highlands to the rolling downland of Southern England; from Cornwall’s jagged coast to the flat fenlands of East Anglia. Every landscape has a story to tell about our past and present.

Lavender-SunsetDiscovering Britain walks engage the brain as well as the feet. They tell stories about the landscape and inspire you to explore why Britain is as it is today. You will discover how our amazing towns, cities, countryside and coast have been shaped by people, historic events, the economy, the forces of nature and much more.

The walks are designed to be fun, informative and inspiring. They’re completely free, self-guided and suitable for all ages and abilities. Prepare to discover something new and to be surprised what you can discover about the UK.

Our ambition is to create more than 100 inspirational and informative walks that bring our islands’ geography and history alive. We are creating new walks and adding to the website all the time.
