Visiting Culloden Battlefield
Did you know that the last hand-to-hand pitched battle fought on British soil lasted just one hour?
Despite its brevity, the battle was brutal: many hundreds of Jacobite and loyalist troops were killed at the Battle of Culloden on 16th April 1746. A new visitor centre and an excellent interactive exhibition have been installed near the battlefield, which tells the grisly tale of that fateful day. The battlefield itself has been restored and visitors can explore way-marked trails and, for a unique perspective, head up to the roof of the Visitor Centre for lofty views over the site.
