Never a better time to plan your year

It seems as fitting a time as ever to be joining the team at Camping & Caravanning.
The first breath of spring is in the air, grey is being replaced with splashes of colour, the evenings are getting longer, and plans are being put in place by anyone who loves the outdoors for how best to enjoy it for the coming season. It is a time of year filled with optimism and anticipation, which are two emotions I have in equal measure as I embark on my new role as Club Reporter.

Probably like you I'm the sort who is always far happier out of doors than indoors. While friends of mine were sending me bleary-eyed ‘selfies’ from various pubs and clubs on New Year’s Eve just passed, I was tucked up under canvas in the Lake District, preparing to tackle a hike up Skiddaw on New Year’s Day.

David gets ready to take to the water during a camping tripI can also recall a camping and kayaking trip to Algonquin National Park in Ontario, Canada as probably my favourite holiday of all time, despite having ticked quite a few other places off my ‘to visit’ list.

While I already consider myself an outdoor enthusiast, I still look forward to learning more about this industry and the Club. I have been mightily impressed with the strong sense of community that members have and the pride they feel by being associated with it. I met a few members at the recent Spring NEC Camping, Caravanning and Motorhome Show and got a real sense of the camaraderie. The Club offers such a rich blend of benefits to its members that I guess it is obvious why it is so strong. Whether it’s the insightful and informative blend of news and features that I will be helping to contribute for Camping & Caravanning magazine, the countless organised meets and social events, or the discount and access to Certificated Sites in great locations, the Club has so much to offer.

David is looking forward to spending even more time in the great outdoorsWhen I think back to some of the camping trips I have planned in the past, I wonder how I managed to cobble a decent trip together without the help and advice that could have been available to me through the Club. But you need not fear such an ill-planned fate. As the season kicks off, there is no better time to see what is going on near you or your desired destination and make 2017 a year to remember.
Take a look at our Out & About section to find meets and events, get inspired by reading some of our features, or treat yourself to a great new bit of kit with tips from our Advice & Expertise section. Whatever your plans, the Club will be delighted to help you make the most of them and share great experiences with you.

As for me, I've already enjoyed a day of tent testing with my new colleagues and am now looking forward to continuing two of my biggest passions in life – writing and the great outdoors. See you out there!
