Sometimes reality bites.

What I had wanted was to travel to one of the UK’s last great wildernesses and be greeted with metaphoric open arms.

“Come on in, nice to see you, hope you enjoy yourself.” I pictured the beaming rays of sunshine, the gentle breeze among the long grass, the soothing isolation – what wonderful pictures we’d get, what great memories we’d take away.

I went to my first ice hockey match the other night. Coventry Blaze were playing Cardiff Devils in the first leg of the Challenge Cup semi-finals.

Why is this important as part of a blog about camping?

Well yes, I know there aren’t too many parallels you can draw between ice hockey and camping, but the reason I’m writing about it is because it was something I had never done before.

Camping & Caravanning magazine has launched a new campaign.

Share the Outdoors aims to encourage people to get active outdoors, to try something new and to get them to persuade friends and family to join in too.

The purpose of the campaign is to highlight the health and emotional benefits of being outside and enjoying an outdoor pursuit.
