Happy New Year everyone and welcome to my first ever Club blog post!
Now, I’ve been sat here for a while wondering what I should write about, a large task in itself as there’s so much to tell you about the Club – and exactly what I do here!
Well I guess I should start at the beginning. I’ve been working for the Club for just over two-and-a-half years and during that time, I’ve had so many adventures – in fact they almost seem to be part and parcel of my job now.
As you’ve probably read, I’m the Communications & PR Executive. I basically work to grab and hold the attention of members, potential new members, internal employees, other organisations and the media to spread the word about the joys of camping, caravanning and the freedom of the great outdoors.
And something seems to be working as we’ve already seen some promising booking figures for the upcoming 2013 camping season – brilliant news campers!
Anyway, back to my job. There’s never a dull moment here - whether I’m helping David Bellamy with a nature walk, pitching up tents with ‘Posh & Becks’ or simply feeling the buzz when my phone is ringing with press requests; it’s a great place to work.
In fact, I’ve had so many memorable moments working at the Club, I think I should really share some of them with you..
So here we go – my top three adventures at the Club to date:
- Camping on the grounds of Warwick Castle.
This was my first camping expedition with the Club during National Camping & Caravanning Week – beautiful weather, lovely grounds, great colleagues and….peacocks! They may be beautiful birds but you have no idea how loud their screech is! I was woken from my slumber by the ‘lovely’ sound of what I thought were cats crying but no, it was the ‘lovely’ peacocks. The overall experience was one memory to keep but perhaps not a night I’d like to experience again – well perhaps without those pesky peacocks. - Real Richness Launch
I can safely say, this is day I will never forget. The phones were ringing off the hook, we were scribbling down quotes, stats – you name it we were on it! We launched our new Real Richness campaign with television presenters, Julia Bradbury and Ben Fogle and to say we created a media stir would be an understatement! You can still find information on our research here: www.realrichness.co.uk
- Meeting Royalty
That’s one heading I never thought I’d write! I had the honour of being involved with the DofE/Club presentation in Windsor Great Park where the Earl of Wessex was invited to award valuable camping equipment to DofE participants - and I have to say, it was unlike any media event I’ve ever been involved in. Security was high in anticipation of the Earl’s arrival to the event – everyone had to be checked in, itinerary’s signed off and security were dotted all around. In the end, it was all worth it. The event ran smoothly, the Earl was fantastic and most importantly, we had lots of young happy campers!
These are just a few of my memorable moments and I’m looking forward to sharing more with you as we head into the summer camping season.
Happy camping everyone!
