    Great site for culture

An exclusively touring site with a deliberately rural feel, in impressive, spacious grounds.

Martragny is highly praised by members as an ideal base for either short or long stays, especially for younger families and couples. The D-Day beaches, sites and museums and the Caen Peace Memorial are close by, as is Bayeux with its famous Norman tapestry. The D-Day Festival takes place throughout the area in the days around 6 June, but amid all the history don’t ignore the simple pleasures of the beautiful Norman countryside, its lovely villages and the delicious regional produce.

Owned and run by the de Chassey family, English spoken. Member of Castels chain.

Location

Spacious setting, exclusively for touring units, amid pretty Normandy countryside. Bayeux 6 miles, Caen 10 miles, Arromanches 10 miles, Ouistreham (Caen ferry port) 21 miles.

Local transport (2016): Bus stop 300m for services to Bayeux and Caen (no service on Sundays or bank holidays).

Pitches

Good size pitches; open or part-shaded; most with electricity (10A); some pitches lining the château drive; others in paddocks around the château.

Very friendly, clean and scenic site. Swimming, fishing and racquet sports on site.

Very friendly, clean and scenic site. Swimming, fishing and racquet sports on site. Big field with goalposts for ball games. Cleanliness was perfectly decent across the whole site. Water pressure was low in new showers so used the old ones (yellow doors at rear of main building.) Plenty of facilities and never had to wait. The location is right in the middle of D-Day beaches, museums etc... and 15 minutes to Bayeaux Tapestry. 90 minute drive to Mont Saint Michel is well worth it, but arrive there for 10.00am before the coach tours turn up! Great site, great location, highly recommend it.

This review is for Château de Martragny

The contract cleaning company responsible for the cleaning did not work to high standards & this was reflected in an accumulation of hair in shower drains, limescale on taps, dirty corners in washrooms, debris left on floors from one day to the next, half-hearted toilet cleaning, sporadic mopping of floors, grubby grey washbasins. The client failed to inspect the standards of cleaning frequently enough, given the busy nature of the site & the level of use. In all other respects it was a lovely site; fantastic location, helpful staff, beautiful chateau, flat pitches, shop, good facilities for families - games, football pitch, go-carts, swimming pool, tennis & table tennis. If only the standard of cleaning was better, it would have been perfect! Lots of interesting places to visit; convenient for D-Day museums & beaches & Bayeux Tapestry. Bayeux is a charming historic town which survived the German occupation & retreat unscathed. Surrounding countryside offers attractive rural architecture in golden Caen stone; farms, monasteries, churches, castles, quiet sunken lanes & cycle routes along gently rolling peaceful byways.
