Le Valerick is a small, peaceful, quiet, site with clean if basic facilities.

This review is for Le Valerick

Le Valerick is a small, peaceful, quiet, site with clean if basic facilities. You are given a very warm welcome from the owners who are a very helpful and obliging couple, very friendly, they have a small shop at reception selling basic groceries and wine/beer, and supply simple hot meals to take away, we sampled them a number of times, a Baker calls at the site around 10 am each day with all the usual bread and cakes. The four Wc,s are clean and simple (no seats) and there are also two urinals (a little open to view), there is a disabled room with shower, basin, and Wc, two other separate showers complete the unit, in the same block there is also a washing machine operated by token at a moderate charge. The pitches are the largest I have encountered in France, Be aware the Electric hook ups sometimes needs a reverse polarity cable, and also at times a double length to reach your pitch. We encountered a lot of Mosquitos in August /September this year and are hoping that they will be less of a problem in May/June in 2016 for our next visit.

This is an isolated site but it's easy enough to reach interesting towns for eating out & shopping, get on a number of routes for touring, and get to the great beaches of the south west. We loved the Cote Sauvage. It provides a good opportunity to meet French people in a relaxed setting, while there are also a fair number of regular British visitors. The campsite owners are very friendly & helpful and although they speak little English we all found it fun communicating. Basic shop & refreshments on site but it works well and they do nice snacks and you can order fresh croissants etc for your petit dejeuner.

Spent 12 nights on this campsite during changeable weather. This site doesn't have a pool, animations, kids club etc. so there are not too many children running around. What it does have is peace and quiet and basic but clean facilities. The owners are friendly but speak no English but we managed to get by with rusty French. Reception sell basic goods and bread in the morning. They also prepare and sell takeaway meals in the evening which we sampled on two occasions and were extremely tasty. Royan beaches are about 13 miles away, Ile De Oleron about the same and well worth a visit. There are waymarked walks around the local area. We would certainly visit again.

A gem of a site! Its far & away the cleanest site I have ever stayed on (even no cobwebs in the rafters!!). Small for French sites & mostly vans but would make a special return trip to go there again it was so good! Huge pitch, no shade on our pitch & temp reached 36 when we visited so I would request a pitch with shade next time. We were on the pitch next to the only wash block which I was concerned about when we arrived but I needn't have been. The place was quiet as soon as it was dark & all guests (mainly older couples & a few young families) were friendly & considerate. Odd wash block set up which initially was off putting but worked really well. Its all open ie sinks face out onto site! Shrubbery around it to shield a little but its very communal & no gender split! Toilets & shower doors open onto campsite. Once you get used to it, it works really well. Never had to queue for shower or toilet despite their only being 3 showers & 5 toilets. Common French set up of no seat on toilet & no soap or toilet roll but you soon get used to going to the loo clutching loo roll & soap. Toliets were spotless despite having no seat & being used by men too!! Warm welcome on arrival but absolutely no english spoken however they were very patient/jovial with my very rusty french & we managed to communicate - even instructions to the washing machine!! Small shop at reception is very well stocked, fresh bread etc daily & you can pre order for the next day. There seemed to be food sold from reception evenings & possibly lunch too but we didn't try it as we bbq'd most evenings. Beaches of Royan a short drive away, plenty of choices of supermarkets in Royan. Traffic to Ile de Oleron was really busy! Small childrens play area was useful & up the hill from pitches so could see but not hear kids! All in all a great quiet site. (No pool but we happily sacrificed that for a quieter site!)
