Overview

Explore Scotland's Border country from your pitch.

The wide open space and stunning scenery make the Scottish borders a walker’s paradise. If you’re planning to visit our Lauder Club campsite be sure to bring your walking boots. The 212 mile Southern Upland Way passes south of the campsite, there’s the lure of the Lammermuir Hills and further afield Arthur’s Seat - an ancient hill fort in Holyrood Park - offers fabulous views of Edinburgh. There are numerous trails direct from site too.

The rural setting of our Lauder campsite means you can be sure of a relaxing break during your stay in border country. The site is well kept and has 60 mainly level pitches served by a good range of modern facilities. A burn runs alongside the site, providing a habitat for local wildlife and birds.

Four miles from the campsite the town of Lauder offers a mix of history, scenery and sightseeing. Thirlestane Castle, one of the seven great houses of Scotland, is here. Its stunning parklands overlook the Lammermuir Hills and the Southern Upland Way passes through the grounds. Visitors can enjoy a woodland walk, small formal garden and picnic area near the castle.

A 40 minute drive north from Lauder will find you in Edinburgh (you could also catch a bus from outside the campsite to the capital or Jedburgh). The medieval buildings of the Royal Mile and the magnificent castle are among its attractions.

My friend and I were commencing a five night camping whistle stop tour of Scotland commencing near Durham city. The lauder site was ideally located for our purpose as a night stop reachable after work on our first night. Travelling near the autumn equinox we new we would be pitching in the dark. We arrived at 9pm and the manager showed friendly concern given that the field appeared black dark from the office. It had been drizzling but luckily had stopped by the time we arrived. We can pitch our tent in the dim lights of the car interior lights but because it was late in the season we were the only tent campers so could use the car dipped headlights without disturbing van and motorhomes at the other end of the site. The facilities are small but more than adequate for the site. They were well lit and as I expected immaculately clean. We had a good undisturbed night. After many friendly greetings from fellow campers and a wave from the manger we were on our way. By luck we had fantastic weather for our holiday and visited Fort William, Skye, Durness and John O Groats. Our first night at Lauder gave us a great start and we will certainly be using the site again.

We live in Yorkshire but our daughter and her family live in Elgin. We have stayed at Lauder as a break in our journey on several occasions. The staff have always been extremely friendly and very helpful. It is immaculately clean. Not a cobweb to be seen even in the toilet block roof. It is a small site but is ideally located on our route north. There is a lot to see in the surrounding area and it would make a good base for exploring the history and nature and places of interest.

“We have just returned from a wonderful stay in one of the four timber chalets at Lauder and have to say the stay totally surpassed our expectations! The chalet was incredible value (and we stayed as non-members in high season) - very spacious yet cosy, spotless and had absolutely everything you'd need for a break away. We were even allowed to have our dog stay with us in the chalet which was great. . The site was very peaceful and perfect for the quiet retreat we were looking for. Easily accessible, a lovely pub right on the doorstep and incredible walking trails right from the site - all in all it's a real gem, we can't wait to return!”

- Paul and Abbi

These four simplistic and rustic timber chalets are set in a peaceful valley in the heart of the Scottish Borders.
