The surrounding area

The wide open space and stunning scenery make the Scottish borders a walker’s paradise. If you’re planning to visit our Lauder Club campsite be sure to bring your walking boots. The 212 mile Southern Upland Way passes south of the campsite, there’s the lure of the Lammermuir Hills and further afield Arthur’s Seat - an ancient hill fort in Holyrood Park - offers fabulous views of Edinburgh. There are numerous trails direct from site too.

Four miles from the campsite the town of Lauder offers a mix of history, scenery and sightseeing. Thirlestane Castle, one of the seven great houses of Scotland, is here. Its stunning parklands overlook the Lammermuir Hills and the Southern Upland Way passes through the grounds. Visitors can enjoy a woodland walk, small formal garden and picnic area near the castle.

A 40 minute drive north from Lauder will find you in Edinburgh (you could also catch a bus from outside the campsite to the capital or Jedburgh). The medieval buildings of the Royal Mile and the magnificent castle are among its attractions.

Lauder is the best camp site we have ever stayed at, and we have been to a few.

Lauder is the best camp site we have ever stayed at, and we have been to a few. The site managers are a credit to the Camping And Caravan Club. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and are one of the most friendly couples you will meet. The site is kept in tip top condition and the pitches well maintained with no cramming in. It is so nice to have plenty of room and must be one of the outstanding features and policy practised by these two managers. Other sites please note? The scenery is fantastic, and sitting watching the birds is an extra bonus. The buzzard's soaring over the tree tops is a sight to see. The Oyster Catchers nesting on the site boundaries and hatching theirs eggs is wonderful, as is listening to their haunting calls. In the evening watch out for the friendly rabbits that will come and visit quite closely. But, the icing on the cake is the Swallows. They have decided to nest right above the entrance door to the reception area. They must be right posers, as they don't mind being photographed visiting and sitting on their nest, truly an amazing site to see. Lauder is a paradise for the wildlife and campers alike. To make matters even better, the local pub is more or less outside the front gate, within easy staggering distance? The meals served are very good, and I would recommend the Haggis, Neeps and Tatties with a red wine gravy, lovely. In the interest of Scottish/English relations, hope I've spelt it correctly. One thing we did do while staying at Lauder, was visit North Berwick. If you get the chance take a boat trip on the Catamaran and visit the local bird sanctuaries. Our trip to Bass Rock and to see the biggest Gannet colony in the UK, is a sight I will never forget in my lifetime. There were also Puffins, Cormorants, Razorbills Fulmers and other sea birds, plus Grey Seals kipping on the rocks. As I have said this is an outstanding site, as are the managers and one that I would have no hesitation in recommending

“We have just returned from a wonderful stay in one of the timber chalets at Lauder and have to say the stay totally surpassed our expectations! The chalet was incredible value (and we stayed as non-members in high season) - very spacious yet cosy, spotless and had absolutely everything you'd need for a break away. We were even allowed to have our dog stay with us in the chalet which was great. The site was very peaceful and perfect for the quiet retreat we were looking for. Easily accessible, a lovely pub right on the doorstep and incredible walking trails right from the site - all in all it's a real gem, we can't wait to return!”

- Paul and Abbi

These four simplistic and rustic timber chalets are set in a peaceful valley in the heart of the Scottish Borders.
