Overview

Explore the university city of Cambridge and its surrounding Fenland landscape from here.

South Cambridgeshire is ideal walking and cycling country – a tranquil and rural landscape interdispersed with gentle rolling hills, beech woods and flat fertile land.

The Club’s pretty Cambridge campsite at Great Shelford, offers an ideal base to explore the area. This level campsite, bordered by trees is just four miles south of the cosmopolitan city of Cambridge.

In addition to its famous university the city offers a range of attractions including museums, art venues, restaurants and bars. Discover the city on foot – there are many walking tours on offer – or take your bike and enjoy the many cycle routes around the city. Further afield the Fens are a pleasant place to spend an afternoon in the saddle with its flat terrain and quaint towns and villages.

During the summer months Cambridge hosts a mezzé of al fresco performances of music in the parks and green spaces as part of the annual Summer in the City programme of events. July sees the city come alive as the Folk Festival takes over and in September the city’s Art Picturehouse hosts the Cambridge Film Festival. No visit to city should be without a punt on the river Cam.

North of the campsite historic Ely has a magnificent cathedral or take a boat trip on the River Great Ouse. The bustling riverside towns of St Ives and St Neots are closeby as is the home of British horse racing – Newmarket.

The National Trust’s Wimpole Hall and Anglesey Abbey, the Imperial War Museum and Denny Abbey and Farmland Museum are popular days out from Cambridge campsite.

We spent 2 nights in Cambridge in Aug 15 and found this site to be just perfect.

We spent 2 nights in Cambridge in Aug 15 and found this site to be just perfect. Toilets are lovely and clean, the grassed areas kept extremely neat and trimmed and there are good hard standing areas. The whole atmosphere if this site is one of peacefulness. Despite being close to a railway , the Stanstead flight path and the M11 none of these intruded at all. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is an excellent cycle track into Cambridge that goes along the "guided bus track". Highly recommended. We will certainly go back.

Stayed here as a base to visit clients in the area.

Stayed here as a base to visit clients in the area. great access to the motorway meant I could get to London / M25 very easily. Lovely site to relax on when I got back. Not far from the park and ride and perfect for cycling into the bike friendly city. Not too crowded even in August. Great facilities and those running the site were very friendly and helpful. I am planing to go back again soon.

We stayed at this site on our way to West Runton.

We stayed at this site on our way to West Runton. The site itself is large and very well maintained. The facilities were kept clean. The site is close to the city and a bus stop nearby. It was 8.40 for two Adults return. The bus goes round the houses (hospital!) but is easier than driving in. It is 3 miles so walking/cycling is another option. Cambridge itself is fabulous with so much to see and do including punting (or watching the punting), shopping, museums, colleges etc. carluccio serves good food and if you fancy an used yogurt there is a shop called Chill, which was very good. The Wardens were very helpful, especially when we had a flat battery as we were leaving! A kind Warden got us up and running again, without hesitation. We will definitely visit this site again.
