    Top site for cycling

Enjoy walking, cycling, Go Ape and concerts from our forest-based site nr Chester.

Cheshire’s largest area of woodland surrounds our Delamere Forest Club campsite. Located in the west of the county near Chester, Delamere Forest covers some 950 hectares providing outdoor lovers with boundless walking and cycling opportunities on its network of paths and trails direct from the campsite. There’s a Go Ape! course too – with zip wires and Tarzan swings - for those with a head for heights.

The mixed deciduous and evergreen trees of the forest surround the campsite. These green surroundings complement the campsite’s many environmentally-friendly features. The excellent on site facilities include a parent and child shower room, laundry and washing area in addition to showers and toilets. The site shop stocks the essentials, further afield RM Wilding and The Hollies farm shops supply a wider range of produce.

In nearby Delamere, Abbeywood Gardens incorporates a two kilometre wildlife walk, while Stonyford Cottage Gardens at Northwich has a woodland walk. Enjoy a boat trip along the River Weaver at the Anderton Boat Lift also near Northwich. The campsite is also handy for Oulton Park motor racing circuit near Tarporley.

To venture further afield, you can catch a train at Delamere station a short walk from the campsite where regular services operate to Manchester and Chester.

This site put a bit of a downer on our trip.

This review is for Delamere Forest

This site put a bit of a downer on our trip. The road from which you access the site seems to be quite busy even in the evenings, roaring bikes like to use it too. The train tracks run parallel to one edge of the site and are no more than 20 yards from it. Trains are very punctual, screeching in and chugging out between 7am and 11pm every half past the hour, made getting 3 young kids to sleep quite a feat. On arrival we were told we aware not allowed to use our footprint beneath our tent, good job my wife found the stray peg on our pitch then! We were told exactly where, and which direction we would be pitching our tent, even given a target to aim for!!! The only entertainment for kids which meant we didn't need to keep an eye on them was a small wooded area! the shower block was no more than a few metres from the entrance and busy road, the other side of the site had unrestricted access to the forest meaning we couldn't really take our eyes off them. No ball games, no frisbees, no kites, no fun, not even a patch of grass they could run wild on. So, if you are older couple looking for some peace and few easy walks this is for you, or if you are just basing off the site you'll get by but I would not recommend this site for family stays with kids.

This site seemed to be quite far from everything other than the forest and Oulton Park.

This site seemed to be quite far from everything other than the forest and Oulton Park. You could hear the racing at Oulton park which didn't bother us but it did some others on the site. The facilities were clean and well appointed. The shop has a few essentials. We walked to the local shop which is advertised at a mile away but seems a little bit more. I got bitten by the midgies here but I think they have been quite bad all over this year. Out of the 4 sites we stayed at this holiday I felt this had the least around it. The car was needed for most things.

Our second stay within a month, following the success of the first. Had a fantastic pitch in the middle of the site which was both peaceful and convenient for the water point and facilities block. All four staff members helpful and good-natured. Toilets/showers very clean. Cannot wait to return.

The two members of staff we had contact with were extremely unhelpful and everything seemed too much effort. We'd booked a tent pitch for 2 adults and 3 children but as we only have smallish cars we had to bring two. This was obviously a major issue to the staff. They also may as well tell you what you are allowed to do rather than what you are not allowed to do, it would be a lot quicker.
