An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near the North Cornish coast

You’ll find some of north Cornwall’s best bathing and surfing beaches within easy reach of our Bude Club campsite. The campsite boasts a prime location in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty between Boscastle and Crackington Haven. Bude lies nine miles to the north, while south are Tintagel and Camelford.

After a day spent soaking up the sun on the beach our Bude campsite is the perfect place to sit back and relax and enjoy the fantastic views over rolling countryside. Bordered by hedges, the campsite has a separate field and you’ll find a recreation room in the facilities block and a small children’s play area opposite reception to keep younger campers entertained while on site.

There’s a pleasant walk to Crackington Haven over fields and stiles from site where you’ll find a sandy beach and an abundance of rock pools. The nearby fishing port of Boscastle is worth visiting. Learn about the legend of King Arthur in Tintagel, enjoy a cliff top walk to the castle ruins and Merlin’s Cave. Just south of Tintagel Trebarwith Strand is a popular surfing beach and dog-friendly. Port Isaac, made famous by TV’s Doc Martin and Boscastle, a delightful fishing port with white washed cottages, steep narrow streets and alleyways, should not be missed.

North of Bude campsite, Widemouth Bay and Blackrock Sands is fabulous for surfing and sunbathing.

The wardens gave me very warm welcome even though I turned up rather late unexpectedly and only wanted to stay one night. The site has a definite rural feel to it and I was conscious that I was near the coast (on a clear day you can see the sea). The site has all the facilities to the Club's usual high standards; it is rather a large site and I would imagine you would be unlucky if you stayed at such a peak time that you felt crowded. I was specially gratified to find that the drinking water supply had a hose attached to it (why do so many sites omit this?!). The field is very flat and in spite of recent heavy rain, I had no difficulty manouvering over the site. The attractions of the north coast of Cornwall and Devon are nearby, this is a great base for trips to Tintagel or Clovelly.

I received a friendly welcome on arrival, the management were helpful and I was happy with my powered tent pitch which was a good size. However... The sewage disposal unit in the middle of the site meant a constant waft of waste was never far away. The site is right next to a main road and although I do appreciate it was bank holiday and probably busier than usual, there was a constant hum of traffic zooming past day and night. There was no dedicated outdoor area for children, so I found I had kids running around right outside my tent which I found irritating. While I was there the water pump broke in the shower block, which meant there was no hot water and no hot showers. The consequence of this was that the entire population of the camp site only had one decent shower in the disabled room to use between us. Queuing up for this in the rain was not a happy experience. The site was not near a beach and options for heading out on foot were limited. I found it a bit dull on an evening, because if I wanted to go for a walk, I had to get in the car to do it. On the plus side, the position of the site, on the Atlantic highway, meant it was easy to get out and explore in the car. The site in itself, was a good non commercial site, with good sized pitches on the powered section. If you're watching your pennies, then this place is reasonable value for money, but don't expect any luxuries.
