Pitch on the shores of Lake Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Braithwaite Fold campsite sits on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Our compact site has 66 level hardstanding with electric hook up pitches – and is well laid out. There are modern facilities including an undercover washing up area, laundry and disabled facilities. 3 grass pitches for tents only.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

We're sorry but this site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. Second vehicles will need to park in the pay and display next to the site.

Worth Noting

This site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. If you have more than one car or you are a visiting the camp site you will have to park your car in the pay and display next door to the site.

Near to Ferry for access to west side of Windermere. Easy, pleasant walk around headland to Bowness. Easy access to buses to all parts of Lakes. Very quiet considering proximity to Bowness.

On arrival we were told that we'd booked a small pitch.

On arrival we were told that we'd booked a small pitch. We had not!!! As we'd been unaware these existed. Our allocated pitch was totally unsuitable for our motor home. Had we parked as instructed by the warden we would have been unable to open the rear doors which are our primary fire escape, as they would have been up against the hedge. Because of this we'd driven onto the pitch meaning that our rear doors would open onto the roadway....our MH is 6 metres long ( 20ft ) This pitch is small...but we did not request a small pitch & where this came from we do not know as it's not on our booking form. When we pointed this out to one of the wardens, he reluctantly agreed to move us to a standard pitch with more room. The wardens insisted that all motor homes & caravans were parked rear into the pitch on the basis that the habitation doors would all be on the same sides, despite the fact that on numerous motor homes this door is on the offside not the near side. Luckily in our MH our living area is at the rear & we were able to enjoy a lake view unlike people in most caravans whose living area is at the front...as they only had the site roadway to look at...what a waste of a good view!!!! This site is beautifully situated & the facilities are very good, but we think that the number of pitches make this site overcrowded as many caravans & towing vehicles have become larger over the years. This leaves very little space to manoeuvre onto & off your pitch. Unfortunately 2 of the 4 wardens were not very friendly or helpful !! We've stayed on this site many many times before the recent change of club, but sadly we won't be returning & we can't recommend it.

Fabulous site. Small, well kept and great location.

Fabulous site. Small, well kept and great location. The pitches are small but the staff were very helpful finding one of their pitches that accommodated our campervan and drive away awning. Due to the great location we didn't have to drive away once as there is lots to do in the vicinity: shops, ferry across the lake and a 4-5 mile cycle to Castle Wray, Beatrix Potter World and more. We shall definitely go back.
