Pitch on the shores of Windermere and explore the southern Lakes from this site.

Our Braithwaite Fold Club campsite sits on the eastern shore of Windermere in the heart of the beautiful Lake District and is a stone’s throw from the linked towns of Bowness and Windermere.

Our compact site has 66 level hardstanding with electric hook up pitches – and is well laid out. There are modern facilities including an undercover washing up area, laundry and disabled facilities. 3 grass pitches for tents only.

Pitch here and you won’t be short of things to do. For starters you can enjoy the many attractions of the lake right from the campsite. Enjoy a steam cruise or have a go at dinghy sailing, power boating or windsurfing. Meet Peter Rabbit and friends at the World of Beatrix Potter in Bowness on Windermere.

Catch the chain ferry to the western shore for the National Trust’s Claife Heights, ideal for walking and cycling, the pretty village of Hawkshead - home to Hill Top where Beatrix Potter once lived - and Grizedale Forest Park with its Go Ape high wire adventure area.

Fell Foot Park at the lake’s southern tip is perfect for picnics and paddling. Near here you’ll also find the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway and the Lakes Aquarium.

We're sorry but this site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. Second vehicles will need to park in the pay and display next to the site.

Worth Noting

This site can only accommodate one car per pitch at all times. If you have more than one car or you are a visiting the camp site you will have to park your car in the pay and display next door to the site.

We were greeted by the staff when we arrived and straight away felt very welcome. We were shown the facilities and which plot we had. The site is very quiet and peaceful, with wild rabbits nibbling at the grass inbetween the caravans! The site is well laid out and very tidy.Bowness is a less than 10 minute walk away. Try the ferry over to Ambleside, and The Albert in town is very good value for food. Porto restaurant is very good - nice for a special occasion. The site is so nice though you may want to stay close by and wonder down to the lake down the little path at the bottom of the site. Overall - amazing weekend!

On arrival it was clear the site was very busy which is fine but does mean there is limited choice of pitches, we booked in with the site manager who asked if we had a motor mover (which we don't) as the pitch we had been allocated was very difficult to access. The site manger escorted us to the pitch (no 56) and called his assistant to help us pitch the caravan. When we arrived at the pitch towards the bottom the site next to the water supply, it was clear it was on a slope so would need a chock to make the caravan level we asked if there where any other pitches to be told there was only 1 other and that was in the shade under the trees, the pitch directly behind was vacant and in a good spot so we asked if we could go on this pitch, the managers attitude was terrible he said it was to small for our outfit (it was about a foot shorter which would have been plenty of room), we then asked about levelling the caravan to which he replied that the pitch was level and no one else had bothered before. In our amazement he then said "I will leave you with it" and walked off followed by his sheepish assistant. Left with no other option we had to manoeuvre the outfit onto the pitch between the cars which was difficult to say the least, luckily a fellow friendly caravaner help us with the last push onto the gravel. Levelling the caravan was impossible which means we had to spend the weekend with doors banging open and water in the sink that won't drain properly. Maybe the club should think about sending thee staff on some customer service skills training courses. We previously booked on again in a fortnight so I hope we get a friendly reception on our return, watch this space!

This was the first time that we have visited the Lake District and we were not disappointed.

This was the first time that we have visited the Lake District and we were not disappointed. We booked on line which was essential as its a very popular location. There are many National Trust properties nearby , so if you are NT members dont forget your membership cards. The local carparks can get expensive they start at a minimum of 2.00 per visit, so make sure you have change with you, or do as we did. Leave the car at the campsite, walk, cycle or use the local bus. Would we go back again? - YES. But we would try and avoid the sites near the trees, as the roof of the awning and caravan got messy with falling leaves, nuts and sap ur roof which made the awning and
