The surrounding area

Our Kendal Club campsite is ideally located for those who enjoy walking and cycling. The hills and peaks of the southern Lake District are on the doorstep while the Yorkshire Dales National Park is around a 30 minute drive away.

Windermere is around nine miles from Kendal campsite. Here you can board a steamer, launch a boat, windsurf or canoe. Back on land the World of Beatrix Potter at Bowness on Windermere offers the chance to meet Peter Rabbit and his friends. On the western shores the National Trust owned woodlands, Claife Heights, is great for walking, cycling and wildlife spotting.

Amblseside at the northern tip of the lake is the starting point for the challenging Wansfell, the Langdales and other mountain. You can also walk to Stock Ghyll Force from the centre of the town. Pretty Grasmere is worth a visit. Treat yourself to some of Sarah Nelson’s famous gingerbread. You’ll find the Grasmere Gingerbread shop tucked away in the corner of the churchyard.

Another beautiful, well maintained and friendly club site.

Another beautiful, well maintained and friendly club site. 10 minute dog friendly, easy walk, besides the river, to the local supermarket. 10 minutes further on is Kendal town centre which is full of independent shops. I walked to Kendal castle with the dogs, as you would expect it is at the top of a steep hill but the views were worth it. And all for free!

The staff at Kendal could not have done better, From the very welcome to choice of available pitches and cleanliness of the site, the whole site team did an amazing job. The site is in a lovely location and Kendal is only a very short distance away with plenty of shops, supermarket, pubs, shopping centre, pubs, lovely walks, gift shops, did I mention pubs :-). Seriously the site is lovely. The downside and for many this may make a difference but to us, it is just a shame. The site is very, very dated. The pitches are far too small for modern outfits. The access road around the site very tight especially when customers park their cars in front of the their caravans instead of up the side (which has its own issues on this and many other C&CC sites which I won't go into. The toilet block which the site staff keep as clean and tidy as humanly possible is unfortunately very, very dated and wants knocking down (for those who have been to Oxford...well this is even older!). This a reflection of the Club not investing and is in no way aimed at the site staff who, like I said, keep everything as clean as possible. If you want a nice easy weekend and aren't particularly bothered about a brand new fully functional toilet / shower block you will have a great time here and it is well worth a visit, Will definitely return.
