Sit back and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this campsite, the plentiful wildlife and the wonderful views. Windermere is not only spacious, it’s well laid out and boasts many environmentally-friendly facilities. There is a separate tent camping area, backpacker facility, a family camping area, children’s play area and a 4* rated pub restaurant The Whistling Pig.

There are many walks from the campsite. Across the fields is the village of Staveley as well as a shop, supermarket and a couple of pubs the Hawkshead Brewery is here too. There are more walks to enjoy from the village including Potters Fell and Reston Scar.

Bowness-on-Windermere offers plenty of water-based activities including cruises, canoeing and wind surfing and attractions including The World of Beatrix Potter and Aquarium of the Lakes. Take the chain ferry to the western side of the lake and visit the pretty village of Hawkshead and Claife Heights, National Trust woodland great for walking, cycling and wildlife spotting. Hopefully helpful for couples that want piece and quiet.

Hopefully helpful for couples that want piece and quiet. This was exactly what it was until two tents and nan, gramp, mum, dad and 3 children under 7 arrived. Peace was shattered and just before all this a warden came and asked us to take our windbreak down because we were violating the 6metre rule with the van next door. We were not told about this has we were first timers, the day we arrived it rained like it had never rained before so the man cycled to show us our pitch, and pointed to the water and left us to it. We turned our van around 28ft tag axle and positioned it where told to but then could not put the windbreaks up on the hard standing. I am sat in my van now writing this with no peace and quiet the tent next door has there door opening facing my van and paddling pools, deck chairs etc spread all over, I would be lucky to have 3 metres from my van spare. Do not have pitch 65 in fear you will have a family in a tent next to you. Nothing was said to them nor the motorhome 2 vans up from us which had done the same as we did with windbreaks. I will not be renewing my membership I will stick with the caravan club

The site is accessed easily from the m6, although a better discription of the access from the main road would be in order, as it was much easier to find than it would appear from the site book instructions....it is a perfect location to explore the lakes, this was our first visit, and wont be our last.....we found everything handy, even the local superstores in Kendal.

Immaculately clean, beautifully kept pitches Everything you could need for a base in Cumbria.

Immaculately clean, beautifully kept pitches Everything you could need for a base in Cumbria. Greater emphasis on caravans not tents. But that is not a bad point, just there are more caravans than tents Bar was reasonable too.
