Sit back and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this campsite, the plentiful wildlife and the wonderful views. Windermere is not only spacious, it’s well laid out and boasts many environmentally-friendly facilities. There is a separate tent camping area, backpacker facility, a family camping area, children’s play area and a 4* rated pub restaurant The Whistling Pig.

There are many walks from the campsite. Across the fields is the village of Staveley as well as a shop, supermarket and a couple of pubs the Hawkshead Brewery is here too. There are more walks to enjoy from the village including Potters Fell and Reston Scar.

Bowness-on-Windermere offers plenty of water-based activities including cruises, canoeing and wind surfing and attractions including The World of Beatrix Potter and Aquarium of the Lakes. Take the chain ferry to the western side of the lake and visit the pretty village of Hawkshead and Claife Heights, National Trust woodland great for walking, cycling and wildlife spotting. The holiday site assistants were all friendly and helpful as they have been on every we have had to this site this year. The only gripe we have is we would like to see rubber squeezes in the shower blocks. We will obviously return next year to this great site. We like it as we were both born and raised in Kendal and love revisiting old haunts.

This is a brilliant site with very friendly and helpful wardens.

This is a brilliant site with very friendly and helpful wardens. The site is large but well spread out with a good play area for the kids. The pub is a great bonus and does a good breakfast on weekend mornings as well. Good walks from the site to Staveley and beyond. Kendal and Windermere a few minutes drive away. The Halloween party was good fun and well organised, thanks to all those who arranged this. Will be back next year.

Previous member for many years in the 70s and 80s when camping and just returned to the Friendly Club and was made to feel really welcome by the Wardens despite losing barrier key on day one and having my van alarm go off on day 2!!!!!!! Site was great with big pitches and lovely surroundings. Close to Windermere and Kendal. Will be back if the Wardens will have us!!!
