A beautiful location, Keswick campsite is great for active campers.

If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations. The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond.

Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

The weather was wintry to say the least the whole stay.

This review is for Keswick

The weather was wintry to say the least the whole stay. The wardens were always very pleasant and cheerful in testing conditions for them. The toilet block was always clean, whatever time of day we visited and the showers worked well. A great base for activities or just mooching round Keswick and it really would be difficult to get much closer to a supermarket. It would have been nice to have had notification that the second toilet block, which should have been refurbished by then, was behind target, albeit this did not cause any problems to us. We really enjoyed the visit and will be back.

We stay at Keswick every year, usually in February.

We stay at Keswick every year, usually in February. Its location and views are outstanding, but it has always been let down by the tired pitches and old, well past it facility blocks. Thankfully, the club has taken on board all the feedback from members regarding the site and we now have excellent toilet/shower facilities and a great laundry room, plus good washing up area. Not all the work on site has been completed (end Feb) but in a couple weeks, all should be done. All caravan/motorhome pitches are now gravelled hard standing and all are of the same high strandard. The pitches which front onto the lake are not yet in use as they will be 'super pitches' with all facilities apparantly - the services still need to be added. The water points have been modernised and tarmaced with recycling bins fitted into these areas and fenced off. Easy walking distance into Keswick with Booths supermarket and bus station only a couple of hundred yards from the site entrance

Had a fab stay, despite weather. Lovely town and excellent bus rides and walks on the doorstep.

Had a fab stay, despite weather. Lovely town and excellent bus rides and walks on the doorstep. I do have a thing about litter and noticed a lot at the top end of the paddock and on the lane approaching. I realise it's not campsite users on the lane but wondered if you have thought of clearing it. Think it would make a difference to the look of the site. The rest of the site is immaculate. Have a super season. We will be back as often as we can
