A beautiful location, Keswick campsite is great for active campers.

If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations. The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond.

Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

We booked a family holiday here for July but because my grandmother took ill we asked if we could change the dates. The staff said that we would have to pay an additional deposit to change the dates. After trying to explain the situation again and again we were still no further forward and had to cancel the whole booking leaving us out of pocket. We are disgusted by the service received by your staff and we will never stay here and will certainly be going to citizen's advice regarding this. We have since booked a much cheaper site that is far more friendly and approachable. * You can keep my ?25 deposit and use it to go buy yourselves a clue.

This site is all about location, if there was a similar facility in the town we would not stay here. The initial greeting was positive but we have stayed here before and our experience has been slightly tainted, however things were looking up. Unfortunately this was not to continue, we were guided to our pitch and told that our whole outfit had to fit on the gravel area. We have a 6m camper with drive away awning and because this was over the gravel area we were told to move it or take it down :(, not a good start to the holiday, some lame excuse about fire regulations but have stayed on grass pitch with same setup and nothing was said. There seems to be a slight negative with dogs and a fellow camper shared a story about the warden being less than friendly to her dogs. Facilities are adequate but one block has obviously been upgraded and even included free hairdryers, big thumbs up, (tip for ladies). In summary, great location but if you want friendly service go elsewhere, sorry it has to be said. I do wish the CCC would take notice.

One of our favourites over the years, however my son was taken to Cardiff hospital to have his appendix out. We had to take him out of hospital a day early as the site wouldn't let us stay for one more night to accommodate us. They also insist on payment for launching any boat no matter how long for and constantly remind you. It's beginning to feel like a business which wants the most money from you rather than a campsite. Very disappointed of late. It should get back to the basics of a campsite.
