If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

This is a great site well organised and spotless, During our stay we had torrential rain resulting in the site and most of the area flooding. We had to evacuate the site Simon the manager and his staff were spot on clearing the area and relocating us to Derwentwater next door. We are booked on again for Christmas so looking forward to returning.

We stayed at the Keswick site in early November. We were lucky with the weather and this meant that we were able to enjoy walks out from the site. The wardens were all very friendly and helpful on our arrival. It was the first time we had stayed at this site but hopefully it won't be the last. The views from all the pitches seem to be amazing. The facilities were always clean, and the site is conveniently located for Keswick town centre. Very happy with our stay here and looking forward to a return visit.

First time at this site and will be back.

First time at this site and will be back. This is a large site and the staff have a formal but efficient check in process. We had to queue for about 20 minutes on a Friday afternoon in November but site was full. One warning is that the site does flood, being right next to Derwentwater. A consequence of this is that the two toilet blocks are some distance from many of the pitches, they have to be elevated. Staff friendly and helpful, views gorgeous, facilities immaculately clean throughout the day. On the edge of Keswick, about 10minutes from the middle of the site. Booths supermarket is on the way to the main shopping area. If you are OK with a large site, and can get in, this has to be near the top of the list, and obviously is with a large number of club members.

Just spent October half term at Keswick, What a lovely place! We visited about 5 years ago but its improved a lot since. I must say that the welcome where you are show to a pitch isn't great not because of the fantastic wardens but you tend to choose a pitch before you really have had a chance to look around the whole site and will normally find an areas you would preffer, I would prefer it to be like the "other" club where you select your own as sopme of the pitches are very small, and to get caravan, car and awning on the small pitch is difficult. The showers are annoying! Although there's plenty of them they are the push button type that go off every 10 seconds and you cannot adjust the heat on them - so some will find them too hot others too cold, Its a silly system that the club should look to rectify. That said make sure you look to use the toilet blocks at the top of the slope as these are often empty as its about 100 yards further to walk than the one everyone else is queuing in! Every time I used the one at the top of the slope I was the only person in there when the site was full. Other than the showers the site is wonderful, ideally placed to visit the lakes, you can walk into the town and there are plenty of pubs to keep you entertained. Many of the pubs offer either "taste card" or discount for the club members too which is great. Fabulous food at the wood stone Pizza place at the top of Keswick town and also in the information hut pick up the dinners discount card for the kings arms hotel in Keswick, it gives you 10% off all meals. The famous Pie's in there are simply fabulous! If you are in to water sports, Nicoll End mariner on the opposite side of the lake has great prices compared to other local firms. so much to do locally we spent the week doing something different everyday and had a fab time. Next time we wont leave it so long between visits.
