If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Lovely site in a fantastic location, friendly knowledgeable staff, excellent clean and tidy facilities. This site is a definite "Most go again site". Love the fact that Keswick shops are so dog friendly which just adds to the overall experience.

Another fantastic stay albeit a little damp at times and cold, however, the warm welcome from staff certainly cheers you up on a cold winters day. Facilities are kept clean and although one toilet block is closed, you never find yourself waiting as the site is at reduced capacity. It's a sensible decision by the management. A brilliant site, superb location with staff who try their best to make you feel at home.......certainly the 'friendly club'. We'll definitely be back

Would definitely recommend but not in winter only if you don't mind strong winds, rain and freezing temperatures. If you get a pitch at the far end of the site the facilities, especially the chemical toilet are a long way to walk. Some pitch's have been churned up by inconsiderate customers. The area is definitely to be recommended. The staff are fine, but lacking enthusiasm unlike other club sites l have visited. We would love a pitch overlooking the Lake so next time we will get there at 1pm.The wildlife is also fantastic. To get the full beauty of this place you must go in warmer weather, hence the reason l put not recommend, just for winter.

After an efficient, cheerful check in, we were helped helped to find a pitch perfect for us.

After an efficient, cheerful check in, we were helped helped to find a pitch perfect for us. The site is very neat and tidy and the washrooms beautifully clean and warm. Even though one set of facilities was out of commission (a sensible decision at this time of year) there was more than enough facilities and we never had to wait. This site is in a perfect location: all the amenities of Keswick in walking distance and easily accessible mountain walking. No need to drive anywhere. We will be back. Thank you
