If you’re planning to explore the northern Lakes, our Keswick Club campsite on the shores of Derwentwater is hard to beat as a base for your explorations.

The site boasts a prime location in the north of the Lake District with stunning views extending over the lake to the hills beyond. Keswick is an organised campsite with good facilities – showers, toilets, washing up area, a laundry and a new backpacker room, particularly useful for those arriving on foot or by bike. Keswick town is within walking distance and ticks all the boxes for provisions, outdoor gear, eating and drinking.

Whether you’re a stroller, a rambler, a high-level walker or prefer to see the sights on two wheels, you can take your pick from numerous lake- and hillside tracks and trails easily accessible from Keswick campsite. Skiddaw is also easily reached from site. And, with Derwentwater so close at hand there’s no shortage of water-based activities to dip into. This stretch of water is popular for canoeing and kayaking. For a small fee you can launch directly from the Sites shoreline.

Fishing can be enjoyed on the lake too. Try the eastern shore or hire a boat from one of the marinas and head to the centre of the lake to catch pike, bream and trout.

For a less energetic way to enjoy the water and the views board one of the motor launches which operate around the lake and offer several drop off points.

At the southern end of Derwentwater is the beautiful valley of Borrowdale where you’ll find the Neolithic Castlerigg Stone Circle and the medieval and much photographed pack horse bridge at Ashness.

Worth Noting

Due to the possibility of Site flooding all units must have a tow vehicle on site overnight. There may be restrictions on pitch availability and use of awnings. If you have more than one car or are visiting the site you may be asked to park off-site.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Keswick on Thursdays and Saturdays.

On arrival at the site on Tuesday June 20th 2017 I was instructed by a member of staff to pitch my small tent on a hard standing though there was plenty of room on grass next to my little Clio. I questioned this as I doubted my pegs would penetrate the hard standing but was told they would. This proved incorrect and I ended up spending another 18 on harder pegs and a heavier mallet which just about secured the tent. I have a Therma Rest sleeping mat which is fine on grass but not suitable for sleeping on a hard standing. Unsurprisingly the sleep was not very comfortable. The only reason I used the site was because my friend had a camper van and we had stayed there before with no problems. On reflection I wish I had just pitched the tent on the grass next to the car but at the time I was following staff`s instructions. If the site is going to cater for tents the process needs to be more user friendly, after all I did pay to stay on the camp site.

The largest site we've stayed on so far and found the staff friendly and efficient.

The largest site we've stayed on so far and found the staff friendly and efficient. We were fairly close to the toilet block but agree would be good to have another one the other end of the site. Keswick itself is so close and full of amenities. Will visit again

Only problem was the pitch which was a brand new one needs some attention to the ground, as flooded when it rained, and the ground remained very soft, but next year will be fine I'm sure. We shall certainly return again. Out dog had a whale of a time with excellant walks within easy reach and the lake, Thank you to all the Staff, we had a great holiday.
