Enjoy great views and easy access to Keswick and Derwentwater from this site.
Our lovely Troutbeck Club campsite is the perfect base for exploring the Lake District. Its idyllic location surrounded by countryside and with fantastic views of the fells is a walkers’ paradise.
Blencathra and Sharp Edge are easily accessed from the campsite. Less strenuous is the half hour walk to the White Horse pub in Scales. The Coast2Coast cycle way passes by the campsite. Another popular mountain bike route is the Old Coach Road which has splendid views of Blencathra and Skiddaw in parts.
After a day on the hill our campsite offers a peaceful place to relax and soak up the views. Pitches are spacious and toilet and shower facilities are top notch. And there’s a laundry and disabled room too. Children have a small play area and there is ample room to exercise your dog on site. The campsite shop sells local free-range eggs, meat and real ales.
Rookin House Farm Equestrian and Activity Centre in Troutbeck offers horse riding, archery, quad bikes and karting. Ullswater, south of the campsite has numerous sandy beaches. Sailing, canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing are all possible here, and fishing for those with the appropriate rod licence.

Having stayed at this site before, we were disappointed this time around. We were situated on one of the four touring pitches beside the toilet block. Not only are they difficult to manoeuvre the caravan if you do not own a motor mover (due to the lack of turning circle), they do not do the site justice of the natural beauty visible from the rest of the pitches on the site. If you are happy with the view of a static caravan in front of you or an old farm building behind you then you would be satisfied with these pitches. Other that this, the site and facilities are good here. There is plenty to do around the area with breathtaking scenery.

Only 10 minutes or so off the M6 and about the same distance from Keswick. Ideal location - spent most of it fell walking and all very close by. Clean facilities and hot showers (though on 1 occasion water was cold - large number of people going in at that time of night I think). Good pub in walking distance (White Horse Inn at Scales). Will visit again

We've been to Troutbeck several times now, it's easy to get to just off A66 and a convenient base for touring the Lakes - easy to get to Keswick, Ullswater, Rheged and any number of walks. The views of Blencathra are stunning. Site is always clean, the shop sells basics and local products and a small selection of beers and wine. It's a little distance to walk to a pub across the busy A66 in Scales but there's plenty of choice within a short drive. Our only sadness is that the farmer has apparently stopped access to the designated dog walk so there is nowhere to walk your dog for a quick morning/evening outing apart from down the road. Apparently people were letting their dogs off leads in the livestock fields thus having spoilt it for all of us! It would have been helpful for the site manager to have advised us when we arrived or even checked out if we had a dog. Sadly it will probably affect our decision to return for anything longer than a couple of nights as our dog is not good on roads even quiet ones.

“We had a lovely time for 2 weeks in the Self Catering 6 berth Caravan. Its a beautiful van with central heating. That was a good thing as the area was covered in snow when we came up from Cornwall for our Easter holidays. This our 5th visit to Troutbeck. We visited first with a tent as a couple. We now bring our 2 small children and other family members. We will book again for next year. We will need the Static caravan and our own tourer as each time we come more family want to join us.The site and the owners and staff are all Fab.”
