The surrounding area

Bakewell town is just five miles from the site – try the pudding (not tart) and then visit Haddon Hall and the National Trust’s Ilam Park and on to Dovedale, an iconic and spectacular gorge carved out by the river Dove.

While camping at Bakewell Club Site, take time to witness the ancient custom of Well Dressing – the decorating of wells and springs with pictures made from natural materials. The wells can be seen from May to September.

Outdoor pursuits in the area around the campsite are not in short supply. Climbing, caving, horse riding and, of course, walking and cycling, are all available. Coarse fishing only 1/4 mile from site.

Joined & booked as a last minute because I had left it too late and my chosen site was full, but so glad I did. It was half the price of where I would usually go and reading previous reviews this is an expensive one. Yes facilities are limited but I always take a portaloo and dry shampoo suffices for 2 nights! Driving my small campervan down the narrow access I did wonder how some larger towing units navigated the typical rural village roads. Beautiful site, only noise to be heard was the local wildlife. Managers very welcoming, pointed out some pitches and let us choose. I have knocked a star off facilities just because the park was fenced off. Looking for my next CCC site with fishing now.

The site via Youlgrave village and the road beyond is extremely narrow in places not made easier by residents car parking which at some places allowed 2 or 3 inches each side to get my caravan through which is a 7'6" wide Buccaneer Caravel which later models amoungst other makes is now 8' wide which would not have been able to get through and its the ONLY way to the site maybe this should be advised when booking. I witnessed several smaller caravans and motorhomes have problems negotiating the parked cars etc. So be warned

the site was nice and well cared for , the staff very helpful and pleasant , however the access is a real problem and a novice at towing would have an absolute nightmare, I do not know what would happen if you met a caravan coming the other way either in or out of the site.i was so worried about meeting something coming the other way , we decided to leave on Saturday night instead of risking it on sunday lunch time. cannot fault the site for what it is , it has limited facilities , but that is well documented .what isn't brought home in the reviews is the shocking access to the site.

Quiet site with great views but no facilities and only one water tap near the entrance which was a long trek every day to fill up. (New water taps were being installed.)In the heart of the Peak District with easy access to some great walks, places to visit and just over a mile to walk to three local pubs. The Farmyard Inn at Youlgrave serving excellent food. Only five miles from Bakewell and easy access to Matlock and Chatsworth. We loved this site and had a grass pitch with electrics as we have a large awning and there is loads of space between pitches. Levelling blocks are essential. The two wardens were very friendly and the grass and landscaping and flowers were immaculate. We would definitely recommend this site for a peaceful holiday.
