Managed to book a night at this campsite at short notice, grandparents very kindly offered to have the kids! after extremely 'busy fortnight camping in Cornwall! We just had our campervan, and stayed on a hard standing pitch. Access to the site is off the main Road and is situated around 3 miles from the historic market town of Ashbourne. Little gem of their camp site, Nice little shop, small clean facilities, little information hut, The site is picturesque, and close to some fantastic parts of the Peak District, we did manage to squeeze in a trip to Dove Dale and Ashbourne with supermarket blended in with some lovely delis and cafes, heading in the other direction is hullenward there is a lovely pub black horse inn which is well worth a visit lovely beer, food and lovely people , although the road has no footpath and is hair raising luckily we met some fellow campers staying at the site and very kindly offered us a lift back thanks (you know who you are)the buses stop at 1800 and are not that frequent, I would definitely stay again and for longer next time

This was a last minute booking as we had a few days spare before I went back to work and we wasn't disappointed, the site is clean and tidy as are the toilets, the staff were friendly and helpful. Went into Ashbourne which is a nice town and had a good meal in the Nags Head just up the road which was good.

Initially booked a grass pitch with no electric.

This review is for Ashbourne

Initially booked a grass pitch with no electric. On arrival was told by steward the grass pitches were boggy and we were at risk of sinking . upgraded to hard standing and electrics. When we walked down to the dog walk we went past the grass only pitched .... which we found bone dry and boggy ground. we felt a bit dismayed as what was meant to be a cheap 2 days away turned into an expensive 2 days. (DONT USE SATNAV POSTCODE) . ... its nowhere near the site and down some tight country roads Ashbourne is 3 miles away and the tissington trail is well worth doing on bikes.

Nice friendly welcome when we arrived.

This review is for Ashbourne

Nice friendly welcome when we arrived. We'd booked an Electrical Pitch and we were directed to what seemed the furthermost field, where we had a choice of two pitches. We stayed three nights and used the site as a base to travel from. Unfortunately there's no local pubs in walking distance unless you fancy a good hike, and we did find the shower block a bit of a trek especially when you wanted a pee during the night :-). Considering the size of the site i was surprised that there were only four showers in the men's , but i never had to queue. It was also strange that all the motor homes and caravans were nearest the shower blocks , whereas most would have self contained loos. Anyhow these are just observations.! No real gripes, but the few times we wanted something from reception, we found it shut, so not really that helpful! Had sunday lunch at the Nags head, which is well worth a visit. Especially nice as they let us take the Dog inside, which many pubs wont. Visited Bakewell, Ashbourne and Matlock and had a very relaxing weekend.

“A friendly and peaceful site, the showers and toilets are spotless and Ashbourne is only a 5 min drive away. There is a dog walk and even though it is a short walk its a peaceful walk first thing in the morning listening to the many birds attracted to the site due to the conservation being carried out. We would definitely use this site again for a peaceful short break. One tip don't follow sat nav.”
