Camp in the heart of the National Forest with walking and cycling from site.

The National Forest covers 200 squares miles, embracing some of Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire. It’s a place to enjoy a variety of activities from forest walks and gentle cycling to horse riding and fishing. It also encompasses numerous attractions from Calke Abbey, the National Brewery Centre, National Memorial Arboretum and right at its heart, Conkers visitor centre offering a Discovery Centre, sculpture trail and an assault course for teenagers. It’s next door to this award-winning attraction that you’ll find our popular Conkers Club campsite.

This well thought out campsite has hardstanding pitches off a large roundabout and plenty of grass pitches for tent campers. The all year round site offers full facilities and has a separate ball game area and an overnight car park. There is an on-site dog walk and plenty of walking and cycling opportunities direct from the campsite including the Ashby World Heritage Trail – a three and a half mile route following the old Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway.

We held our Association AGM at Conkers and were welcomed and helped by the site manager who was very helpful to all our members and to us as organizers helping with advice about all attractions locally and adjacent to the site. the facilities were kept very clean and the pitches were allocated so that we could be as close together as possible without compromising the usage of other members. A first rate visit made by the managers and location of the site. Next year we are off to Drayton Manor.

An excellent site that we have used many times. Both ourselves and our dogs thoroughly enjoy the walks in the local woodland and along the canal tow-path.

Fantastic welcome, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The views are good and only a few minutes walk from the Conkers Visitor Centre. Our SatNav did get us lost and sent us down Slackey Lane. Local lady then directed us back easily enough. Local shop (Co-Op) was only a 2 minute drive away. Would certainly recommend this site. Thank you!

This site is nicely laid out with plenty of room for caravans or tents. As it has a play area for children, the site was extremely noisy, well into the night. I found the facilities lovely and clean, but very small. I took my ten year old god-daughter who has Downs Syndrome and cannot wash/shower on her own, and I found it very difficult to fit the both of us into the shower or the wash room. There is a family wash room, but that was always busy when I wanted to use it. I thought the pot washing area was ridiculously small. Three small sinks with drainer but in a really small room. The wardens were really friendly and very helpful, especially as my husband is in a wheelchair, so they advised where we could visit that was wheelchair friendly. The real big down side was the outdoor concert at Conkers visitors Centre that was blasting across the site until midnight. It was that loud it sounded like it was in the field right next to the camp site. Overall a nice site, but I won't be returning.
