Camp in the heart of the National Forest with walking and cycling from site.

The National Forest covers 200 squares miles, embracing some of Staffordshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire. It’s a place to enjoy a variety of activities from forest walks and gentle cycling to horse riding and fishing. It also encompasses numerous attractions from Calke Abbey, the National Brewery Centre, National Memorial Arboretum and right at its heart, Conkers visitor centre offering a Discovery Centre, sculpture trail and an assault course for teenagers. It’s next door to this award-winning attraction that you’ll find our popular Conkers Club campsite.

This well thought out campsite has hardstanding pitches off a large roundabout and plenty of grass pitches for tent campers. The all year round site offers full facilities and has a separate ball game area and an overnight car park. There is an on-site dog walk and plenty of walking and cycling opportunities direct from the campsite including the Ashby World Heritage Trail – a three and a half mile route following the old Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway.

We stayed here for one night on our way home from Cornwall. Very pleasant reception. I have a twin axle caravan and the motor mover had packed in. I was guided to a nice easy drive though pitch so no manoeuvring needed. Very helpful. The site is easy to tow a caravan to, all main roads. Toilets, showers, Laundry and chemical disposal all very clean. Pitches are a good size with nice fine grit on hard standings. Grass looks well looked after. Play park for children and large grass area to play on. Security barrier in use. Close to Conkers outdoor centre which will be popular for families. Shop at reception has some basics food and camping equipment.

I stayed for only one night on a long drive back from a holiday in Scotland en route to somerset. The site wardens could not have been more welcoming or helpful. The site was nice and quiet and immaculately kept. Good walks nearby, but I did not manage to find the canal that I was looking for. The good weather made it even more enjoyable.i would definitely return if in the area .

Signage for site entrance is badly positioned. You are at the entrance before sign is seen.

Signage for site entrance is badly positioned. You are at the entrance before sign is seen. Vehicle following my unit showed it's alarm and anger when I suddenly turned off the minor road. An earlier warning sign, about 200 meters from the site would save a lot of confusion (common for many rural sites). On talking to the duty warden this appears to be a common complaint. It's obviously time something was done before an accident happens. The time of my arrival was about 6:30 pm on June 30th 2015. Showers cubicles very small, smallest I've used in 38 years on CCC and CC sites. They were very clean. We only used this site as a stopover on a journey to Devon/Cornwall, but there seemed to be plenty on offer for a longer stay.
