Near the South Devon Heritage Coast - sandy beaches and activity or peace and tranquility. The choice is yours.

You’ll find our California Cross Club campsite in South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling countryside, the campsite is nestled between the sandy beaches of South Devon’s Heritage coast and the dramatic landscape of the Dartmoor National Park.

Peace and tranquillity is what you’ll find here, along with a mix of level and sloping pitches and a good range of on-site facilities. The California Inn and a shop, both next door to the campsite serve and sell locally produced food.

Nearby Modbury and Ivybridge offer a range of shops and places to eat. The latter will also appeal to walkers. The Two Moors Way starts here, traversing the National Park on its way to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. Heading south the Erme-Plym Way links Ivybridge to Wembury. The beach here is known for its surfing and rock pooling.

Bigbury on Sea boasts the biggest sandy beach in south Devon. Catch the sea tractor from here to pretty Burgh Island. For windsurfing, canoeing and coastal walks go to nearby Wonwell beach. Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches are also not to be missed.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks may be needed. Please note that currently, the play area is partially out of action.

Eat Local

The California Inn and a shop, both next to the campsite, serve and sell local produce. A farm shop four miles away has local organic meat and vegetables, a monthly Farmer's Market visits Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge.

The site staff are very welcoming, helpful, and they work hard to make the site a really enjoyable place to stay. There are lots of great places to visit within a short drive, and the shop at the garage (very short walk) is well stocked. We have stayed at this site several times & it always been a lovely site to stay on.

We stayed here for 9 nights in August 2016. We dropped lucky with the weather as it was perfect!. We visited The Eden Project, lots of little coves and bays, Dartmoor, Dartmouth on numerous occasions. Played on Agatha Christies piano in her own house, went to Woodlands theme park, all in all had a wonderful, busy holiday. This site is immaculate, the wardens obviously take a personal pride in the place. Toilet and shower blocks were always clean and well presented, grass is well kept. No problems with electric or water supplies. Site is adjacent to a bp garage which is well priced for fuel, advise to fill up here before you hit the motorways on your way home!!. The Spar shop is well stocked and reasonably priced too. The pub opposite is ok, limited, expensive menu but ok. The lanes to and from the site are far too narrow for the volume of traffic on them and delays are inevitable as caravans and trucks meet in the opposing direction. I would recommend this site to anybody and will definitely come back here at the drop of a hat ??

My friend and I had a lovely stay here even if the weather wasn't co-operating.

My friend and I had a lovely stay here even if the weather wasn't co-operating. Every attraction is a drive away though, but not too far. Buckfastliegh, Totnes and Plymouth were great days out, Dartmoor, and not to far away is Dartmouth, a fabulous resort town. We were less than impressed with the food at the California Inn, pity.

This was our first visit to this site but we could not have been more pleased with the friendly reception, the general layout and cleanliness. If you are looking out for a peaceful and relaxing break, then this is the place for you. After a long day at the beach and you do not feel up to cooking then the nearby California Cross pub serves delicious food.Add to this the convenience of the Spar and petrol station and you have the complete package!
