Near the South Devon Heritage Coast - sandy beaches and activity or peace and tranquility. The choice is yours.

You’ll find our California Cross Club campsite in South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling countryside, the campsite is nestled between the sandy beaches of South Devon’s Heritage coast and the dramatic landscape of the Dartmoor National Park.

Peace and tranquillity is what you’ll find here, along with a mix of level and sloping pitches and a good range of on-site facilities. The California Inn and a shop, both next door to the campsite serve and sell locally produced food.

Nearby Modbury and Ivybridge offer a range of shops and places to eat. The latter will also appeal to walkers. The Two Moors Way starts here, traversing the National Park on its way to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. Heading south the Erme-Plym Way links Ivybridge to Wembury. The beach here is known for its surfing and rock pooling.

Bigbury on Sea boasts the biggest sandy beach in south Devon. Catch the sea tractor from here to pretty Burgh Island. For windsurfing, canoeing and coastal walks go to nearby Wonwell beach. Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches are also not to be missed.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks may be needed.

My husband and I have just returned after spending 6 days camping and had a lovely holiday.

My husband and I have just returned after spending 6 days camping and had a lovely holiday. We are late forties and enjoy sightseeing, walking and good food and drink. We were welcomed and given loads of useful information about things to do in the area. We had great weather which is always a bonus when you are camping. The only negative I can think of is that the closing of the toilets and facilities for cleaning was earlier than we have found on most sites, from 10.30 - 12.00 noon. A bit of a rush to get up, showered, breakfasted and washed up. We like to take things a bit slower on our holidays. Overall though we had a great time and would recommend the site.

The site is very well located for exploring the beaches.

The site is very well located for exploring the beaches. Everyone on the campsite were friendly and very helpful, even the staff at the nearby Spars. Care must be taken on the extremely narrow roads not to ruin your holiday with a crash or scratch. We spent 7 nights but it felt like 4 nights - time flies when you're having fun!

Nice quiet site with all amenities except a local bus route.

This review is for California Cross

Nice quiet site with all amenities except a local bus route. Nearest bus 3 miles away in Modbury which left us dependent on our friends. If you have a car it is ideally located for Dartmouth, Torcross, Kingsbridge and Salcombe. The route in from the A38 was easy, even for our friends towing a large trailer tent. Already planning our next visit but longer this time. Highly recommended.
