Near the South Devon Heritage Coast - sandy beaches and activity or peace and tranquility. The choice is yours.

You’ll find our California Cross Club campsite in South Hams, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Off the beaten track and surrounded by rolling countryside, the campsite is nestled between the sandy beaches of South Devon’s Heritage coast and the dramatic landscape of the Dartmoor National Park.

Peace and tranquillity is what you’ll find here, along with a mix of level and sloping pitches and a good range of on-site facilities. The California Inn and a shop, both next door to the campsite serve and sell locally produced food.

Nearby Modbury and Ivybridge offer a range of shops and places to eat. The latter will also appeal to walkers. The Two Moors Way starts here, traversing the National Park on its way to Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. Heading south the Erme-Plym Way links Ivybridge to Wembury. The beach here is known for its surfing and rock pooling.

Bigbury on Sea boasts the biggest sandy beach in south Devon. Catch the sea tractor from here to pretty Burgh Island. For windsurfing, canoeing and coastal walks go to nearby Wonwell beach. Mothecombe and Coastguards beaches are also not to be missed.

Worth Noting

Some pitches are sloping and chocks may be needed.

Eat Local

The California Inn and a shop, both next to the campsite, serve and sell local produce. A farm shop four miles away has local organic meat and vegetables, a monthly Farmer's Market visits Totnes, Dartmouth, Ivybridge and Kingsbridge.

This was our first visit to this site but we could not have been more pleased with the friendly reception, the general layout and cleanliness. If you are looking out for a peaceful and relaxing break, then this is the place for you. After a long day at the beach and you do not feel up to cooking then the nearby California Cross pub serves delicious food.Add to this the convenience of the Spar and petrol station and you have the complete package!

We enjoyed the site.

We enjoyed the site. It's ideal for going out to major towns as it's fairly central and near the A38. Was not that happy with the very narrow roads even without a caravan. Really test your skills. But that's Devon for you.

We had a wonderful half-term holiday at the site which was clean, quiet and friendly.

We had a wonderful half-term holiday at the site which was clean, quiet and friendly. Jan and Jo kept the place spick n span and did everything they could to ensure all guests had no problems. Showers, washrooms and toilets always clean and no queueing! I agree with a previous comment that duckboards or longer shower curtains would help keep the floor dry but adequate wall hooks mean all clothes and wash gear can stay off the floor anyway. From the site we were able to visit all the places on our wish list (including Babbacombe model village and Bygones, Buckfastleigh, Dartmouth, House of Marbles in Bovey Tracey and the tractor ferry to Burgh Island), and we now have a new list of other places to visit for next time.
