    Site within National Park

There are glorious views of Dartmoor National Park from this lovely Devon campsite.

Fabulous views and numerous walking and cycling opportunities await those camping at our lovely Tavistock Club Site. This pretty site lies on the central western boundary of the stunning Dartmoor National Park.

This spacious campsite accommodates up to 80 units and has modern facilities including individual shower rooms with toilet and sink, disabled facilities and a laundry and washing up area. As well as the many dog walking opportunities off-site, there are two large enclosed dog walks on site.

Tavistock, 2 ½ miles from the site, has world heritage status. It is a picturesque and ancient Stannary and market town with the beautiful River Tavy running through its centre. Whether you enjoy lovely cafes and shops or grand architecture and historical abbey ruins, it is well worth a visit.

Leave your car on site and venture on foot or two wheels and explore Dartmoor’s sweeping hills and wooded valleys. The National Cycle Route number 27 (coast to coast Ilfracombe to Plymouth) passes 200 yards from the site.

A good place to start your visit to Dartmoor is the National Park Visitor Centre at Princetown, east of Tavistock campsite. Displays and exhibitions give a wonderful insight into the history, culture and wildlife of the area. Princetown also offers excellent access to the north and south moors for hill walkers.

The beautiful village of Sheepstor south-east of Tavistock campsite is where Stephen Spielberg’s Warhorse was filmed, while north of the campsite, Lydford boasts a castle and the stunning Lydford Gorge which stretches for one and a half miles from the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool to the 100ft Whitelady Waterfall.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

The site is kept in perfect condition and the facilities very clean.

The site is kept in perfect condition and the facilities very clean. The dog walking area is perfect to allow the dogs a good off the lead run and again really well looked after. Walks on the moors and market shopping in the town makes it a good location for all to enjoy a holiday. The wardens are excellent even sharing their home grown produce with us. Nothing was too much trouble their attitude made the site one of the nicest we have stayed in.

Upon arrival at the site we were greeted within the reception area with smiles and a warm welcome. We were given a welcome pack, which explained the do's and dont's of the site, which was actually useful! We had a choice of electric hook-up pitches for our 6 berth tent, and we were taken to our pitch by Andy, who explained where to pitch up and of the facilities on site (it felt very welcoming and friendly). We were the only tent pitched in the electric hook-up section, with a mixture of caravans and motor-homes. The site was more than level for our tent and was a nice and quiet site. The shop was like a Tardis, which stocked so much at reasonable prices. The information room was exceptional, with plenty of leaflets for the surrounding area. The washing-up area and toilets were kept clean at all times. We really liked the large shower/sink/toilet cubicles, which had so much space! The only downside was that the water pressure for the showers was hit-and-miss. If the men's and women's shower blocks were full, the water literally trickled out of the shower and down the wall (very frustrating!) The children's play area is not particularly big, however it is a nice area that is well kept. The dog walk around the edge of the site was wonderful. It was enclosed and large enough for dogs to have a run. Of course there are plenty of walks locally, but it is so nice to have a decent dog walk on site! The barrier system in use for the site makes it feel secure and safe, and although there is a road close-by, the noise did not bother us. . Once night time came, it would have been nice to have had lights along the road/paths. We will certainly return to this site as it is well situated and overall a very nice site!

This campsite is situated on the edge of Dartmoor near Pew Tor, there is easy access to the moor and all the glory that allows you to enjoy and is only a short drive to Plymouth and the South Hams. This camp site is quiet, tranquil and restorative; the amenities are impeccable, well kept and clean. Importantly the staff are warm, welcoming and extremely helpful; especially Lin and Andy. Us being newbies to this camping malarky Lin and Andy were most helpful in advising us about campsite etiquette and organisation; a warm thank you for your patience and kindness to them both. This area is great for road cycling. Turn right out of the campsite and you are immediately met with a 4 mile pull up hill with gradients of up to 15%; after that the whole moor opens up to you. This site is a well deserved favourite of ours!

The manager and staff are doing all they can to improve the site, but it is already run to a very high standard. We very much recommend this site. Tavistock is a lovely market town which combines the picturesque of the old with modern town amenities.
