There are glorious views of Dartmoor National Park from this lovely Devon campsite.
Fabulous views and numerous walking and cycling opportunities await those camping at our lovely Tavistock Club campsite. This pretty site lies on the central western boundary of the stunning Dartmoor National Park.
This spacious campsite accommodates up to 80 units and has modern facilities including individual showers rooms with toilet and sink, disabled facilities and a laundry and washing up area. As well as the many dog walking opportunities off site, Tavistock has a large dog walking area on site too.
Leave your car on site and venture on foot or two wheels and explore Dartmoor’s sweeping hill and wooded valleys. For example, the 11-mile Granite Way passes north of Tavistock campsite from Lydford to Okehampton and takes in spectacular views of Meldon viaduct, Meldon lake and Okehampton castle.
A good place to start your visit to Dartmoor is the National Park Visitor Centre at Princetown, east of Tavistock campsite. Displays and exhibitions give a wonderful insight into the history, culture and wildlife of the area. Princetown also offers excellent access to the north and south moors for hill walkers.
The beautiful village of Sheepstor south east of Tavistock campsite is where Stephen Spielberg’s Warhorse was filmed, while north of the campsite, Lydford boasts a castle and the stunning Lydford Gorge which stretches for one and a half miles from the Devil’s Cauldron whirlpool to the 100ft Whitelady Waterfall.

Nice site like all the club sites we've visited. We had the usual friendly welcome and were directed to all facilities. The toilet block was the best we've seen with large cubicles that included shower, toilet and washbasin with plenty of hooks for hanging clothes and a shelf for washbag and odds'n'ends. We wanted a hardstanding which were mostly taken as it was half-term week. We chose one away from the passing B-road to minimise traffic noise. This was fine but didn't have any grass between pitches (which would be preferable in the summer when sitting outside). Most hardstandings on site do have grass between them but all those, except a couple by the road, were taken. There was no motorhome service point which we were able to work-around with guidance from the site manager but we have come to expect the convenience of such service-points (especially for emptying waste water) on club sites. Finally the local knowledge seemed a bit lacking. When I enquired about the local pubs in order to plan a days walk from the site I was told the nearby "Dartmoor Inn" would be OK for a lunch-time break and meal. When we got there on Tuesday after about 3 hours walking on the moors we found it was closed all day on Mondays and Tuesdays and only open in the evening on Wednesdays. We ate the light snack we'd taken with us and shortened our afternoon walk in order to get back to our van earlier than originally planned. Maybe I was just unfortunate to have asked an assistant who was new to the site but it would be more helpful to say "I don't know" rather than to give incorrect information.
