Camping near the lovely moors and beaches of North Devon.

Our Umberleigh Club campsite in the Taw Valley is surrounded by rolling hills and meadows and is close to the moors and beaches of north Devon.

This peaceful family-friendly site enjoys a rural location with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Facilities on site include clean, well maintained toilets and showers, a children’s play area, games room with infant's play area, skittles, table tennis table, table football and pool. There is a TV lounge, fishing pool and dog walk. There are also two tennis courts for hire, with free tennis coaching for children during school holidays.

A quarter of a mile from the campsite is the village of Umberleigh. Here you will find an art gallery, an antique shop and a local pub. Umberleigh is also one of the stations on the picturesque Tarka Line which runs between Barnstaple and Exeter.

For clean, sandy beaches and surfing head to Westward Ho, Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and for family days out there’s the factory outlet Atlantic Village and Atlantis Adventure Park, Bideford, The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and the Quince Honey Farm.

We visited for a relaxing few days.

This review is for Umberleigh

We visited for a relaxing few days. We particularly wanted to travel on the Tarka line from the nearby station. We eventually went all the way to Exmouth and had a very enjoyable day. Note - The path down to the station is quite steep and might be slippy if wet. Facilities are good and site managers were very friendly and helpful.

A good site slightly sloping in places on grass pitches, but it is easy to get a nice view. Easy access to field and the nearby woods. Most dogs kept under good control, but there is always one to who the rules do not apply. It could be made clearer that dogs are to be kept on lead in the adjacent field and not allowd to roam in the long grass and use this as a toilet, where irresponsible owners do not pick up. The children need to play in the field without having to worry. I only saw this twice from twice, by the same owner.

We have just spent 2 weeks at Umberleigh and loved every minute of it.

We have just spent 2 weeks at Umberleigh and loved every minute of it. Very warm welcome and the friendliness continued though out our stay. The site is very peaceful so if you are looking for a busy site with loads going on this is not the site for you. It is an ideal site for exploring North Devon & Cornwall. Yes the toilets need updating but they were always clean. If you want to go to a lovely beach we can recommend Saunton Sands it costs 6.50 to park all day. The little port of Appledore is definitely worth a visit as is Instow which is on the opposite side of the inlet (which also has a lovely beach and is dog friendly). If you like shopping pop along to the Atlantic Shopping Village. A Fish & Chip van comes to the site on Tuesday evenings around 7.15pm.
