Camping near the lovely moors and beaches of North Devon.

Our Umberleigh Club campsite in the Taw Valley is surrounded by rolling hills and meadows and is close to the moors and beaches of north Devon.

This peaceful family-friendly site enjoys a rural location with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Facilities on site include clean, well maintained toilets and showers, a children’s play area, games room with infant's play area, skittles, table tennis table, table football and pool. There is a TV lounge, fishing pool and dog walk. There are also two tennis courts for hire, with free tennis coaching for children during school holidays.

A quarter of a mile from the campsite is the village of Umberleigh. Here you will find an art gallery, an antique shop and a local pub. Umberleigh is also one of the stations on the picturesque Tarka Line which runs between Barnstaple and Exeter.

For clean, sandy beaches and surfing head to Westward Ho, Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and for family days out there’s the factory outlet Atlantic Village and Atlantis Adventure Park, Bideford, The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and the Quince Honey Farm.

We were very pleased with the campsite, slightly out of the way of coastal areas but easily drivable and being we travelled with 3 dogs the field to exercise them was very beneficial to us and the dogs. Small shop on site selling essentials and when we had a minor medical emergency they provided us with a bandage to deal with it, very helpful team running the site and very willing to help out. Toilets and showers have plenty of hot water and are kept warm with hairdryer provided. All in all very happy with the experience and definitely intend to use this site again, pitches good size so no feeling of overcrowding or being overlooked, another plus was every body on the site was friendly and pleasant to talk to, great site to stay on, thanks to managers of site for a pleasant experience.

Lovely local pub, The Rising Sun. Friendly staff and very tasty and plentiful food. 10 minutes on foot but need to negotiate 1 in 4 bridleway. The station is near and gave good access to Barnstaple, buses are good from there.

I arrived on opening day of 2015 and got a very warm welcome from Lisa and Marcus. The site is immaculate, the grass all cut, very pretty Spring planting. There is plenty for children, a climbing frame with net, a children's playing field with goalposts and also a Games Room. There's a really good dog walk which leads down to the woodland and fishing lake. The facilities are a bit old fashioned looking but spotlessly clean. Super hair dryer in ladies and some nice flowers too. Lots of hot water and the lady's shower block was nice and warm. ( didn't see the men's!) The shop is extremely well stocked. A bit of road noise during the day but silent at night with little light pollution so good for stargazing. I saw the Space Station going over. Buses stop outside the gate and it's only a short walk to the railway station. A great site, well worth a visit.
