Camping near the lovely moors and beaches of North Devon.

Our Umberleigh Club campsite in the Taw Valley is surrounded by rolling hills and meadows and is close to the moors and beaches of north Devon.

This peaceful family-friendly site enjoys a rural location with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Facilities on site include clean, well maintained toilets and showers, a children’s play area, games room with infant's play area, skittles, table tennis table, table football and pool. There is a TV lounge, fishing pool and dog walk. There are also two tennis courts for hire, with free tennis coaching for children during school holidays.

A quarter of a mile from the campsite is the village of Umberleigh. Here you will find an art gallery, an antique shop and a local pub. Umberleigh is also one of the stations on the picturesque Tarka Line which runs between Barnstaple and Exeter.

For clean, sandy beaches and surfing head to Westward Ho, Saunton, Woolacombe and Ilfracombe and for family days out there’s the factory outlet Atlantic Village and Atlantis Adventure Park, Bideford, The Milky Way, The Big Sheep and the Quince Honey Farm.

Well I finally get time to write again, this was our second summer break staying here 3rd time in total and my God what a difference a year makes. Worst 10 days of our lives. The site is now run down, worst welcome to a club site ever, washing facilities turned into a private wash room for site staff so the rest of us have to use the two remaining sinks,so always a Que..the toilets have also been reduced and a cubicle in each (male/female) is now a store room which child can easily reach the cleaning materials. Also the extended cleaning time (never seen at a club site before) still wasn't long enough as many times they were still closed with no staff to be seen.(maybe too busy with the family). It's now a place that the site staff walk around in their dressing gowns and invite family members to the site(no problem with that) but felt I couldn't interfere when I needed something as they were all having a family Party. Site was dirty, no site cleaning after pitches had left the trailer tent in front of our tent left Rubbish and no site staff thought about going around the site when people were leaving. Even the tennis coach didn't turn up! Please bring back the previous site staff who were welcoming, friendly, helpful. Sad to say we will not be booking for next year. Shame because it's a great location for all a family holiday

A lovely country site on the edge of a farm.

A lovely country site on the edge of a farm. Consists of field with track looping around, with hard standings and a lower grass area. Toilet blocks are clean and well maintained and appear to have been refurbished fairly recently. Site was not too busy as it was end of season. After dark it was really quiet with little noise or light pollution. Good pubs in nearby villages. Handy for Barnstaple and North Devon attractions. We visited dartington Ctystal, RHS Rosemoor, the National Trust Carriage Museum at Arlington Court as well as Clovelly. All within easy driving distance

Our visit to Umberleigh was part of a West Country tour and was initially picked for the fishing pond. We were cheerfully greeted, booked in and shown around by Marcus to whom we must give special thanks. Not only did he identify that our son had learning difficulties, (something not always outwardly noticeable), he had the courage to raise the topic with us. Knowing that we had paid the normal full rate for him he pointed out that the Club does make special dispensation for people with disabilities/learning difficulties, who need support, to camp free. Now in our 20th year of membership this was news to us! Thank you. We spent a couple of evenings in the games room playing pool and skittles great fun - but will have to return to test out the pond!
