Linger a while on this friendly campsite in southern Scotland.

Moffat is our Club campsite in the Scottish lowlands. It’s an ideal stopping off point for journeys through Scotland. This pretty Victorian Spa town is just three minutes off the M74. But Moffat is much more than just a pit stop, its idyllic location more than warrants a longer stay.

The 180-pitch Moffat campsite boasts a fine setting in a wide valley surrounded by magnificent scenery. The well laid out site has a good range of well-placed facilities catering for all campers needs.

If you choose to linger a little longer in the area, the town of Moffat is a great place to start your exploration. Just a five minute walk from the campsite, the town boasts one of the broadest high streets in Scotland. Here you'll find the fountain topped by the statue of Colvin Ram, the famous Moffat Toffee Shop and the Star Hotel which appears in the Guinness Book of Records as the narrowest hotel in the world. Moffat also offers a variety of shopping including a weekly market on Fridays and a monthly producers market.

Nearby Station Park offers a  variety of attractions including a boating lake and gardens. Next to the campsite the Hammerlands Centre has a garden centre, cafe and fishery.

The town holds an annual walking festival in October and from the campsite you can access some of the finest hilwalking in the south of Scotland. Also close by is the Grey Mares Tail, a magnificent waterfalldropping 200ft from Loch Skene.

There are also a number of historic houses and castles in the area. Drumlanrig Castle near Thornhill - Scotland’s oldest inhabited house - contains artwork by Rembrandt and Da Vinci and has wonderful landscaped gardens and woods. Medieval  Caerlaverock Castle is located close to nearby  Dumfries.

This is the first time using a Camping and Caravanning Club site, albeit I have been Caravanning for 18 yrs with another Club. I found my stay to be very enjoyable with the wardens friendly attitude and facilities very good. Moffat is a lovely wee town and the site won't disappoint you. You should try it. I'm happy to say I will certainly return.

As a newbie to caravanning I wasn't sure what to expect. So was completely delighted with my stay at Moffat campsite. Was greeted very warmly at reception and had a good choice of pitches offered to me. The warden who showed me to my pitch gave me a quick 'what's to do in Moffat ' which was nice as I've never been to Scotlandq before. He seemed genuinely interested in my planned trip and said if I wanted to know a bit more about what lay on my route, I could ask him after I'd settled in. Wow, this guy should work for the Scottish tourist board!! He was really knowledgeable, pointing out loads of great places and things which I would have missed if left to my own devices. His insight into loch ewe and the arctic convoy were especially nice, as one of my uncles had served there during the war, something I had forgotten. I only regret that I have forgotten his name or I would recommend anyone heading north to have a quick chat to him. The site itself was very nice, facilities were really clean and the town itself had loads of great pubs and restaurants. I will definitely return to Moffat, and will definitely be joining the club before my next venture.

This site is great, it's 2 minutes from the village, just behind the supermarket. The toilet block always seems to be clean and plenty of hot water. The site is well maintained and spotless. The wardens are all really friendly and always busy around the site. Moffat itself has good eateries and most of the hotels are dog friendly. Great location, just of the motorway. Can't wait till my next visit!
