Overview

Explore the villages, towns and coast of the south east from this campsite.

Our Crowborough Club campsite lies in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Ashdown Forest, the setting for A.A.Milnes wonderful Winnie the Pooh books is on the doorstep. London is around 35 miles to the north and the historic spa town of Tunbridge Wells seven miles north west. While the coastal towns of Eastbourne, Brighton and Hastings are around 20 miles away.

The campsite is well laid out. Trees and hedges divide the site giving a more secluded feel in some areas and some sheltered pitches for tent campers. A good range of on-site facilities are available including toilet and showers, a laundry, disabled facilities and a recreation room.

Woodland walks can be enjoyed direct from the campsite and the neighbouring park and leisure centre and swimming pool provide convenient entertainment for younger family members.

Crowborough town is a ten-minute walk from the campsite and offers shops and a good range of places to eat. Visit Tunbridge Wells for its elegant architecture and the Pantiles – a colonnaded walkway where you can browse, shop, eat and stroll.

For family days out visit Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, Chiddingstone Caste, The Mill Toy and Pedal Car Museum and The Kent and East Sussex Railway. Biddenden is just one of many Vineyards in the area.

We were given a cheerful, friendly welcome by Andy and Liz, who were always helpful. Although only 15 minutes walk from the centre of a town with 4 supermarkets, our hard-standing with electric pitch overlooked woodland, it was peaceful, and you wouldn't know the town was there. The woods are fenced off, so it took about a mile of fiddling round the leisure centre and steeply down a country lane before one reached unlimited country walks from the site. Some grass pitches at the furthest end had glorious views for miles, while those near the entrance might have been a bit disturbed by the A26. The toilet blocks were always clean and tidy, but a bit limited in number for the size of site. It could be a problem in high season. The showers were rather cramped, but worked OK. The toilet flush systems functioned well - unlike most modern ones. We did not use the adjacent Leisure Centre, but it appeared to be well organised and to offer the expected facilities, including swimming, with some campsite discounts. There was also a miniature railway and boating pond. Crowborough town centre is not the prettiest, and it is dominated by the busy A26 with a permanent traffic jam at the lights. However, it boasts award-winning Indian and Thai restaurants (the best Thai meal I have ever had) within easy walking distance, as well as numerous takeaways. The site is well-maintained, a good centre for exploring the area, and we can certainly recommend it.

There exists a lovely park at the back of the site with facilities for young children. The nearby leisure centre is modern and well equipped. However we took our kids to the open session in the swimming pool and was disappointed to find that they allowed their members to swim the lanes, which meant there was nowhere for our kids to play or swim. We purposely avoided the lane swimming session. We entered the pool after speaking to the lifeguard and received dirty looks from the swimmers every time we blocked one of their lanes. Most unfriendly and we would not repeat the experience.

Very tired site. Needs a total overhaul.

Very tired site. Needs a total overhaul. Paid 53+ for two nights and expected far more for that money. Toilet block needs a revamp and two shower cubicles is not enough for a site with 90 spaces. Bus stops outside which is good as there was nothing to keep us on site. Crowborough very close and Tunbridge Wells a little further but worth a visit. Sadly I could not recommend this site to anyone and will certainly not return.

We found the site managers very helpful & friendly, and they were great in helping us with a good pitch. Great location for visiting Hever, Brighton, Eastbourne and loved having the leisure centre next to the site as we used the pool a lot. Only downside to the site was the toilet & shower facilities as these were very dated and there were only 2 showers so it was sometimes a wait. It would put me off coming back to the site in high season as although there is another block open at peak times this would still be inadequate. Also there were no washing cubicles available only an open row of sinks. But we would come back off peak as we really like the site itself.
