Adjacent to the beach, Norman’s Bay site is a haven for walkers and nature lovers.

On the East Sussex coast, our Norman’s Bay Club campsite is perfect for family camping holidays. Opposite the privately owned, wide expanse of sand and shingle beach is ideal for sandcastles, kite flying and bathing. The popular seaside resorts of Eastbourne and Brighton are to the west and Bexhill-on-Sea to the east.

The open and level site has 200 pitches and three amenity blocks. Facilities include washing machines, a parent and child room, children’s play area and recreation hall. There is also a well-stocked site shop.

The nearby Pevensey Levels, known for nature conservation and agriculture, will satisfy nature lovers. For walkers, the South Downs Way (pick it up at the Seven Sisters Country Park) is a great way to see the stunning East Sussex countryside.

The area is steeped in history - the Normans landed here in 1066. Join the 1006 Way which takes you around Battle, Hastings and Pevensey Castle, one of Britain’s oldest strongholds, to discover some of this history.

Eastbourne, five miles south west of the campsite, offers a plethora of things to see and do. There are parks and gardens, the Sovereign Marina with a host of shops, craft outlets and eating places and several beaches offering safe bathing and a variety of water-based activities.

Other attractions in the area include the magnificent moated Herstmonceux Castle, Drusillas Park and Charleston Manor.

Worth Noting

The site is next to its own privately-owned, dog-friendly beach, where fishing is available.

Ball games and kite flying are not permitted on site, however the adjacent beach is a perfect spot for these activities.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

There is a farmers' market in Pevensey Bay every other Saturday. The Star Inn offers campers a discount voucher for mid-week carvery lunches.

We initially booked for 7 nights, but we were enjoying ourselves so we booked another night. The site is a credit to the staff, being well looked after and with spotlessly clean facilities. We were offered an excellent choice of pitch, and found one that suited our needs perfectly. The beach is just across the road from the site, so it's only a couple of minutes walk away. I think even our dog enjoyed himself. The reception includes a small shop, where essentials like bread and milk are available. Pevensey Bay, about 1.5 miles away, has a range of shops including a small supermarket, but the main shopping centres are Bexhill and Eastbourne, each about 5 miles in either direction, and easily accessible by car or train. Are there any down-sides? Well for us, no, but for anyone arriving with a large motor-home with no other means of transport, the nearest rail station is about a mile away, and the nearest bus route about a mile in the opposite direction. Both are quite an easy walk though, on a level road. There is also a railway line running along one side of the site, but it didn't cause us any problems.

Loved the open aspect with views all round - except for the sea.

Loved the open aspect with views all round - except for the sea. It was hidden behind a bank but it was just a minute's walk away to the pebbles-and-sand beach. Ablutions blocks dated and tired but quite usable. For campervan with only an inflexible drop-down waste, there's no open drain at m-h service point, so no use to me. My local Tesco carpark drains easier! I would go again and recommend this site. One other disappointment, though, was I couldn't hear the waves!

Stayed for 2 nights last w/end in August.

Stayed for 2 nights last w/end in August. On arrival check in was very easy with very friendly & helpful staff. We were taken to our pitch & then given a choice of 4 to choose from! The site is spotless & very quiet with a little shop for essentials ie, newspapers & bread etc, Out the gate & across the road & you are on the (pebble)beach, which is dog friendly. The 2 toilet/shower blocks are kept very clean. All in all a lovely site & we will definitely return soon.

We stayed at Normans Bay for 10 nights at the end of August and over the Bank Holiday Monday.

This review is for Normans Bay

We stayed at Normans Bay for 10 nights at the end of August and over the Bank Holiday Monday. Like many others I had read previous reviews and was a bit unsure about what we would find but was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it is a busy site but being right on the beach it is very popular and even over the Bank Holiday weekend the 6m rule was still observed. Yes, the old facilities block is slightly dated but was always clean and the new blocks are less than two minutes walk away. Yes, the site is open and it can get windy but when the sun shines you get it all day. No, you cant play ball games on the site but thats made very clear when you book and when you arrive and the beach is just over the road. As for the wardens Liz and the rest of the Team were polite, professional and I noticed that they went out of their way on a number of occasions especially to accommodate overseas visitors who tended to arrive late without reservations. Pevensey has some basic shops and a handful of takeaways and The Star Inn just up the road offers good value food with their carvery being highly rated (make sure you download the voucher for a mid-week discount from their website). Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings are all within easy reach though Id suggest you go to the Old Town of Hastings which has some great little independent shops. We also took a day trip to France via Eurotunnel (book in advance for the best price). The shingle beach (great for dog walking and fishing) is best at low tide when the sand is exposed so download the tide times so you know when to go otherwise the sandy beaches of Camber Sands arent too far away.
