Overview

A secluded campsite in rural Essex, near both the coast and the city.

Our pretty Kelvedon Hatch Club campsite in the heart of leafy Essex serves those campers seeking the excitement and attractions of the capital as well as those looking for a relaxing break on the Essex coast.

This 90-pitch campsite is secluded and peaceful and has a really rural feel. All forms of camping is catered for here with a range of facilities including a parent and child room, children’s play area and an excellent dog walk.

The pretty village of Kelvedon Hatch – best known for its once-secret nuclear bunker, now a museum, is close by. Also close is Brentwood, with Mountnessing Windmill – a restored, working post mill – and Old MacDonald’s Farm, a leisure park aimed at children. You can also catch a train from the town to London – buses to the station stop half a mile from site with trains leaving every 10 minutes to the city.

For some beach action, head to Southend. Three Shells, the town’s most central beach, offers easy access to Adventure Island, the Pier and numerous shops, cafes and amusements. Also try the Blue Flag, dog-friendly Canvey Island Beach in the Thames Estuary and the Blue Flag Sandy Shoebury East and Shoeburyness Beaches.

This is a really nice site, laid out well with a nice feel, the office has a few items for sale, from gas to sausages and the staff were very welcoming. Nice mix of campers on the site and plenty of space, you don't feel put on by the nearest camper, I will definitely return thanks

Basic essential amenities and all very clean & tidy and well presented. Would ideally suit those who prefer camping in peace and quiet. Hard standing pitches for Vans with serviced & unserviced pitches plus loads of grass for tents. Would like to have seen just a tinsy winsy bit more for the kids, nothing major, but a few more items in the park (which has 1 slide & 2 swings). Perhaps a little nature trail or simple play fort/structure would have made it pretty much just the perfect little hide-away site for those with young kids. This said, we made up our own fun and it was nice just to chill out here. Plenty to do though if you are off out and about and have a car. Ongar has the historical high st. plus the weekend historic railway into North Weald and on to Epping via historic bus. There's the market at North Weald, Swimming pool at Ongar Lesuire Centre and plenty of places to eat. Camping shop near to the site is well stocked, some nice garden centres, plus the Brentwood Brewery & Farm Shop/Organic Shop is a short drive towards Brentwood. Then obviously the big town of Brentwood has all the usual town stuff to do and see. Long weekends or lazy peaceful and simple times, then this is ideal for you. Well worth a visit.
