Overview

A secluded campsite in rural Essex, near both the coast and the city.

Our pretty Kelvedon Hatch Club campsite in the heart of leafy Essex serves those campers seeking the excitement and attractions of the capital as well as those looking for a relaxing break on the Essex coast.

This 90-pitch campsite is secluded and peaceful and has a really rural feel. All forms of camping is catered for here with a range of facilities including a parent and child room, children’s play area and an excellent dog walk.

The pretty village of Kelvedon Hatch – best known for its once-secret nuclear bunker, now a museum, is close by. Also close is Brentwood, with Mountnessing Windmill – a restored, working post mill – and Old MacDonald’s Farm, a leisure park aimed at children. You can also catch a train from the town to London – buses to the station stop half a mile from site with trains leaving every 10 minutes to the city.

For some beach action, head to Southend. Three Shells, the town’s most central beach, offers easy access to Adventure Island, the Pier and numerous shops, cafes and amusements. Also try the Blue Flag, dog-friendly Canvey Island Beach in the Thames Estuary and the Blue Flag Sandy Shoebury East and Shoeburyness Beaches.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

There are too many notices. It is difficult to understand why recycling is not encouraged.

There are too many notices. It is difficult to understand why recycling is not encouraged. In other club sites, visitors dispose of their rubbish it seems an extra job for the wardens! Also the refurbished toilet block needs extractor fans to disperse steam. It is a secluded site and has excellent links to London. Comments, suggestions and observations not sure where my thoughts slot into.

The road improvements make it easier to be more mobile using a wheelchair.

This review is for Kelvedon Hatch

The road improvements make it easier to be more mobile using a wheelchair. Everywhere is spotlessly clean and the site managers and assistants are very friendly, obliging and hardworking. The shop has the basics if you forget anything. We would not visit any other site in this area unless, of course, it was full! Close to Brentwood and Chipping Ongar. South Weald Coutry Park is an enormous space for children and dogs, lots of walks and a small shop with cafe. See the Story Time corner across the field from the cafe.
