We used the Camping in the Forest site at Beddgelert in May 2016 to support the first part of our own 2016 National Three Peaks Challenge. The site is in a typical forest location; it is very non-regimented with lots of different areas to pitch up. We chose the area the furthest away from reception but even then we had a toilet block close by. Good hardstanding with EHU at each pitch. The Welsh Highland Railway runs right by the site. In fact the site has its own station, Meillionen, and runs from Porthmadog to Caernarfon. In order to commence our preferred Snowdon ascent, it was necessary to catch the bus [the Snowdon Sherpa] from the site entrance, change in Beddgelert and then onto Pen-y-Pass to start the Pyg Track route. Once at the summit and having the de rigueur photos taken at the trig point, we descended down the Rhydd-Ddu path. Unfortunately the connecting bus was missed which meant a 2 hour wait for the next one whilst refreshments were taken at The Cwellyn Arms [the sign saying that it was open 9 days a week!]. So it is possible to do a linear route up & over Snowdon using public transport. So, in summary, the site is superbly located to access all of Snowdonia.

Wow what an experience this break was. We were camping in the forest for the first time. Tranquil and beautiful site. Well Kept. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We loved the river and pools (so did the doggies) and the area was beautiful. Steam trains ran past the site and it added to the holiday seeing them. We were poorly but it didn`t stop our enjoyment. would book here again without hessitation.

Stayed for 9 nights over Easter. The site has a great location in the middle of Snowdonia. We accessed the site from Caernarfon, which was ok for towing. The route had a couple of potential pinch points but otherwise ok. Whilst the staff were friendly and helpful, this didn't make up for the general poor state of the site. Whilst I appreciate it's been a very wet winter, that doesn't excuse the numerous potholes on the tracks which showed no sign of being repaired whilst we were there. The hardstanding pitches varied considerably in size, we just managed to fit our caravan and awning on ours, though it filled with pools of water as drainage seemed poor. Other hardstandings were smaller and as it's first come first served for pitches, if you're looking to use an awning you may struggle to find a big enough pitch. Lastly the bathrooms were disappointing, we were closest to the smaller facility which was unheated and too often only managed to provide lukewarm water. I only used the other, larger facility once and whilst it was nicer, the shower was lukewarm at best. In short, great location but the site really needs some basic improvements.

when we arrived the site manager informed us that campers hadn't left so very limited to choice of pitch, very busy site with traffic movement and pitches very close together, bins over flowing, and campers arriving late and early morning. noisy site not what we would expect to find on a forest site. lovely railway on site, and a lovely dog walk, ice cream palour in the next village was lovely. pubs in village lovely food, we asked if we could swap sites but was told no refund after 24 hrs we are a family with 2 young children and 1 dog, wanting a quiet walking, family time holiday very disappointed with the site will not return. lovely dog friendly beach in port maddock.
