Extremely disappointing welcome on arrival, approached by a very unhelp member of staff who simply give us a map and told us to find our own pitch, site was already full and day light was fading fast. On all other previous sites that we have stayed on with the Camping and caravan club the staff couldnt have been more helpful, our pitch was already allocated and they would show us the way ( follow the man on the bike), explain the site layout, shower toilet block location, give us some local knowledge on good eateries . The only pitch left was on uneven ground full of stones making it nearly impossible to set up the tent, the site looked generally tired. Then there are the biting insects (Thousands of them), whilst I appreciate this isnt the fault of the site and is clearly down to nature, I think it would have been useful to have a bulletin point on the web site staying that this is an issue, this way people can then bring along some protection in terms of sprays or face nets etc, I have never been on a site where everyone is sat inside their tents and the childrens playground is empty, fearing that if the go outside they will be bitten to death. We had been booked in for two nights, but left after one and we shall never return to this site, not what I would have expected from the club.

This was to be our nights in wales following walking scarfel pike and then walking Snowdon the following day. Made clear we would be arriving around 1900. On our arrival ( after a hike up scarfel and a 300 mile drive) there was no one around, phoned the number no answer, was at a loss, rang a door bell only to shortly after see "only press in emergency." a member of the site arrived and said in an abrupt manor "whats the emergency?" apologised and said we didn't realise, he then made comment just park up, book in tomorrow and walked off. Me and my friend felt so unwelcome, with no idea of the area or where to eat, we parked up walked in the direction of the local town to find somewhere to eat came back and decided to get some sleep and leave. iv spent a lot of my life camping and never felt so unwelcome on a camp site.

This review is for Beddgelert - Snowdonia

A very special location - excellent for walking, hiking, mountain biking and for a quick walk into the charming town of Beddgelert, with its pubs and a few restaurants. There was not much wrong with the site, HOWEVER I struggle to understand, how, with the site completely full for New Year, that one of the toilet blocks was shut off and completely inaccessible. And it had been shut since October. So only four toilet cubicles in the ladies and likewise in the gents were available to everyone on site. Surely with so many campers and quite a lot of income from them, it would have been a nice touch to have the site fully functioning. The two member of staff were very kind and welcoming - it must be said - so this decision to have only half the site open must have been a managerial choice. Villagers have told us that plans have been passed to erect log cabins on half of the site - which might explain the closure of the toilet block. If this is true, it's sad for the village that it will lose quite a bit of revenue from the campers that would have stayed at the site. Who knows, maybe the site will be improved by this move? I'm grateful that we had the opportunity to stay at this special location but wonder whether, what with the building of log cabins, the site will be improved for the majority of users (everyday campers) or just for a select few?

This review is for Beddgelert - Snowdonia

We used the Camping in the Forest site at Beddgelert in May 2016 to support the first part of our own 2016 National Three Peaks Challenge. The site is in a typical forest location; it is very non-regimented with lots of different areas to pitch up. We chose the area the furthest away from reception but even then we had a toilet block close by. Good hardstanding with EHU at each pitch. The Welsh Highland Railway runs right by the site. In fact the site has its own station, Meillionen, and runs from Porthmadog to Caernarfon. In order to commence our preferred Snowdon ascent, it was necessary to catch the bus [the Snowdon Sherpa] from the site entrance, change in Beddgelert and then onto Pen-y-Pass to start the Pyg Track route. Once at the summit and having the de rigueur photos taken at the trig point, we descended down the Rhydd-Ddu path. Unfortunately the connecting bus was missed which meant a 2 hour wait for the next one whilst refreshments were taken at The Cwellyn Arms [the sign saying that it was open 9 days a week!]. So it is possible to do a linear route up & over Snowdon using public transport. So, in summary, the site is superbly located to access all of Snowdonia.
