The forest setting with the river Colwny running through it creates a picturesque scene which naturally attracts a wealth of wildlife. This review is for Beddgelert - Snowdonia

A very special location - excellent for walking, hiking, mountain biking and for a quick walk into the charming town of Beddgelert, with its pubs and a few restaurants. There was not much wrong with the site, HOWEVER I struggle to understand, how, with the site completely full for New Year, that one of the toilet blocks was shut off and completely inaccessible. And it had been shut since October. So only four toilet cubicles in the ladies and likewise in the gents were available to everyone on site. Surely with so many campers and quite a lot of income from them, it would have been a nice touch to have the site fully functioning. The two member of staff were very kind and welcoming - it must be said - so this decision to have only half the site open must have been a managerial choice. Villagers have told us that plans have been passed to erect log cabins on half of the site - which might explain the closure of the toilet block. If this is true, it's sad for the village that it will lose quite a bit of revenue from the campers that would have stayed at the site. Who knows, maybe the site will be improved by this move? I'm grateful that we had the opportunity to stay at this special location but wonder whether, what with the building of log cabins, the site will be improved for the majority of users (everyday campers) or just for a select few?

We used the Camping in the Forest site at Beddgelert in May 2016 to support the first part of our own 2016 National Three Peaks Challenge. The site is in a typical forest location; it is very non-regimented with lots of different areas to pitch up. We chose the area the furthest away from reception but even then we had a toilet block close by. Good hardstanding with EHU at each pitch. The Welsh Highland Railway runs right by the site. In fact the site has its own station, Meillionen, and runs from Porthmadog to Caernarfon. In order to commence our preferred Snowdon ascent, it was necessary to catch the bus [the Snowdon Sherpa] from the site entrance, change in Beddgelert and then onto Pen-y-Pass to start the Pyg Track route. Once at the summit and having the de rigueur photos taken at the trig point, we descended down the Rhydd-Ddu path. Unfortunately the connecting bus was missed which meant a 2 hour wait for the next one whilst refreshments were taken at The Cwellyn Arms [the sign saying that it was open 9 days a week!]. So it is possible to do a linear route up & over Snowdon using public transport. So, in summary, the site is superbly located to access all of Snowdonia.

Wow what an experience this break was. We were camping in the forest for the first time. Tranquil and beautiful site. Well Kept. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We loved the river and pools (so did the doggies) and the area was beautiful. Steam trains ran past the site and it added to the holiday seeing them. We were poorly but it didn`t stop our enjoyment. would book here again without hessitation.
