The surrounding area

Our Hertford Club campsite is on the outskirts of the attractive market town of the same name and surrounded by rolling countryside.

It’s an easy walk into Hertford with its town square and River Lea towpath walk. And Balls Park close by is excellent for dog-walks.

The Cole Green Way, part of the National Cycle Network, is about 1.5 miles from the campsite, starting at Hertford Football Club it follows a former railway to Welwyn Garden City. There are more recreational options at Hartham Common, just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre.

For days out there’s Paradise Wildlife Park, Knebworth House and Waltham Abbey or you can take a train to London from Hertford East which is a 20-minute walk from the campsite.

This campsite, although large is spacious with some 250 pitches, offers many quiet and secluded pitches and there are lots of separate areas to choose from. The site is well laid out with well- maintained facilities including washing machine and dryers, inside dish washing area, an outdoor play area and dog walk.

There is a separate tent area with a facility block close at hand. The whole site is plentifully supplied with trees, hedges and shrubs and there is an attractive lake too.

On arrival a notice displayed on window" out on site please come and find us".I eventually found someone to be told go and wait and someone will be alone soon.Waited 20minutes to be booked in. We were able to pick our own site which was good but I must say the managers are the most un friendly ones we have come across in all our time of uses our club sites,it seemed that everything was to much trouble,no friendly advice about there area at all. I went to the office another time to find it closed when it was opening times, rang the bell ,a guy opened it and said "I'm on the phone won't be a minute "and promptly locked it again You need a car as the town is a good walk up and down hills

A few years ago wardens were removed on mass as they'd become 'guards' and not representative of the 'friendly (!) club. With some it's heading that way again. I have stayed regularly over the last 5 years , I will now only stay if no other sites available. Wardens need to temper how they communicate to members ' who are paying their wages! ' PS this is the first negative comment I have ever left since I joined.
