    Top site for dogs

A spacious, quiet campsite by the county town of Hertford that you can enjoy all year round.

Our Hertford Club campsite is on the outskirts of the attractive market town of the same name and surrounded by rolling countryside.

This campsite, although large is spacious with some 250 pitches, offers many quiet and secluded pitches and there are lots of separate areas to choose from. The site is well laid out with well- maintained facilities including washing machine and dryers, inside dish washing area, an outdoor play area and dog walk.

There is a separate tent area with a facility block close at hand. The whole site is plentifully supplied with trees, hedges and shrubs and there is an attractive lake too.

It’s an easy walk into Hertford with its town square and River Lea towpath walk. And Balls Park close by is excellent for dog-walks.

The Cole Green Way, part of the National Cycle Network, is about 1.5 miles from the campsite, starting at Hertford Football Club it follows a former railway to Welwyn Garden City. There are more recreational options at Hartham Common, just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre.

For days out there’s Paradise Wildlife Park, Knebworth House and Waltham Abbey or you can take a train to London from Hertford East which is a 20-minute walk from the campsite.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

We stayed here for four nights at the beginning of December, friendly welcome and the facilities great if beginning to show it's age a little, but we used this site purely as a base to go into London, and we used the Hertford east station (approx 20min walk from site ) approx 50min to London Liverpool journey time , (11:60 return with no underground /bus travel, or 17:00 ish including underground etc ; this was during the week, weekend was 13:50 return including underground etc, not bad value really, ) we found that we could walk from London Liverpool to the river to explore the tower bridge area, monument, and walked as far as the London Eye , covert garden area, in one day, then the next day (Saturday ), we used the underground to explore harrods, Oxford Street, regents street, we went to explore the xmas lights in London which were amazing, the south bank xmas markets and winter wonder land at Hyde Park absolutely great atmosphere ,lights noise food and music brill, weaalso had a cheap meal at weatherspoons at Marble arch, very good value, ( two meals and drinks for less than 18),we had a great time Hertford, exploring London and it's festive magic, and exploring a little of Hertford to, ps there's a big tesco next to the train station, cheers

Nice site. Large. I sort of like it.

Nice site. Large. I sort of like it. Wide open spaces with trees and wild life and a wildlife pond. Mostly quiet. However, the facilities are clean but in a poor state. Showers very poor. Need refurbishing/replacing. I started calling them drizzles. Low pressure. Water sprays out round edges of shower head. Temperature can vary from hot to cold. They need replacing really. It appears that all thing required by "Health and safety" are done on the site but not things for the comfort of the visitor. The laundry drier was out of order. The site is well over a mile to the nearest public transport and town. Hertford is a nice town when you can get there.

A very wet weekend which of course is not the sites fault.

A very wet weekend which of course is not the sites fault. However had the roads not been full of muddy potholes things would have been so much better. Welcome was ok but told in no uncertain terms that there was no pitches within a reasonable distance of the facilities which there were all weekend! I am mildly disabled so it would have been nice to have been closer. Facilities themselves as usual spotless until the ignorant few who couldn't wipe their feet left their mess behind, presumably these would be the same people who cannot drive at 5 miles an hour and leave their rubbish all over the site for someone else to clear up! Our biggest objection was the large number of "permanent" units on site. This included traveller type caravans with huge filthy awnings and trades vehicles in some cases. The site rules states 1 vehicle per pitch ( motorhome towed cars the exception) we counted up to 4 vehicles with some units at times. Therefore the club is flouting it's own seasonal pitch and vehicle rules. Like most club sites Hertford is in desperate need of some investment especially to its roads and hard standing pitches which are the worst we have seen plus some stronger management to control what will soon become a traveller base if not.
