    Top site for dogs

A spacious, quiet campsite by the county town of Hertford that you can enjoy all year round.

Our Hertford Club campsite is on the outskirts of the attractive market town of the same name and surrounded by rolling countryside.

This campsite, although large is spacious with some 250 pitches, offers many quiet and secluded pitches and there are lots of separate areas to choose from. The site is well laid out with well- maintained facilities including washing machine and dryers, inside dish washing area, an outdoor play area and dog walk.

There is a separate tent area with a facility block close at hand. The whole site is plentifully supplied with trees, hedges and shrubs and there is an attractive lake too.

It’s an easy walk into Hertford with its town square and River Lea towpath walk. And Balls Park close by is excellent for dog-walks.

The Cole Green Way, part of the National Cycle Network, is about 1.5 miles from the campsite, starting at Hertford Football Club it follows a former railway to Welwyn Garden City. There are more recreational options at Hartham Common, just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre.

For days out there’s Paradise Wildlife Park, Knebworth House and Waltham Abbey or you can take a train to London from Hertford East which is a 20-minute walk from the campsite.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Absolutely loved this site.

This review is for Hertford

Absolutely loved this site. Staff very helpfully chose us a hardstanding electric pitch where our friend could pitch her tent next-door to us. The toilets, showers and dishwashing facilities were great, and very clean. The site is large enough, and the pitches spaced far enough apart, to engender a really relaxed feel. Lots of rabbits, squirrels and even pheasants hopping around the place. Although it's surrounded by countryside, it's only a 20-minute walk into the town, with lots of hostelries and restaurants (although the walk back to the site is fairly steep). The site shop sells some basics, and there's a lovely little breakfast/burger bar serving reasonably-priced food, coffee, etc (at least at weekends - don't know whether it stays open all week). Loved it, and we'll definitely be back. Oh, and there are quite a few options for dog walks too (they have a leaflet about them at reception).

We have been coming here for about 20 years and after an absence of about 5 years it was nice to return to our nearest C&C club site. Check in was smooth (unlike our friend who arrived on the Saturday of bank holiday weekend and took an hour to check in, but totally understandable seeing as though it was bank holiday!) and the staff accommodated our pitch to be near each other. Grass pitches well kept. The site hasn't changed much, I was disappointed that the dog walk had been shut, not because we have a dog but because it was a nice little walk through the woods. Lovely play area for the children though. The toilet blocks desperately need updating. The toilets don't flush properly, the showers are adequate but there is only one soap dispenser in the ladies and none in the men's. If someone is in the wash cubicle in the ladies that has the only soap dispenser, there is no soap to wash your hands with. Not ideal when you're camping. We did find the new burger van a lovely idea and addition and although we didn't actually use it I think if we had stayed longer we would've done. The site seems to be overrun now with people on year round pitches. This obviously isn't a problem although we did feel like we were imposing at times by being on 'their site' by some of the looks we had. I will always come back to this site as its the closest one to where we live but those toilet blocks need updating desperately.

I booked this site for 5 nights but added another 2 nights because the sun was shinning & the site was lovely to stay on. Very dog friendly & lovely walks, being disabled i couldn't manage too far on some days, but evening walks around the borders of the camp was enough, as its a large site, it was nice to see the bunnies & squirrels & even a pheasant, the dogs loved seeing them too, there's also a lovely wooded area to walk the dogs. Hertford town is just a short walk away, with lots of shops/cafes/bars, i stopped in a helpful cafe for cheese on toast & a cuppa, which wasn't on the menu & it was delicious. I had my 3 dogs with me & the waitress watched over them for me while i went inside to visited the ladies room. Only thing with the walk into town is that its a uphill walk back, unless your driving there. When I arrived I asked to be near the disabled facilities & was placed right next to the block, which was a great help. The staff could not have been more helpful through-out my 7 nights stay, they were always friendly and smiling, they seemed to be on duty 24/7 as you would always see them around the site doing something or other, so always available. The little shop was normally open more hours than the normal times, selling a good variety of items. I found all the facilities working well & clean, I never saw any problems with the facilities, as mentioned in the reviews posted earlier. There's a lovely little pond at reception with lovely fantails, comets and goldfish, look out for the little Oranda fish thats in there, he's always at the front (surprised to see an Oranda in a pond because they are a fancy fish kept for indoor tanks). There was only one thing that i was slightly upset about, was the fact i was placed with my awning facing West where i got no morning sun but a very hot caravan during the day, partly my fault as i normally ask where the sun comes up, so i can face the awning East.

I've been using this site since 2007and it's sad to see the how it has deteriorated. The site roads are full of pot holes that fill up with muddy water when it rains. Access to pitches is rutted and muddy. The facilities block is in need of work - too many cracked washbasins, and toilets that don't flush properly. The site staff are lovely, none of this is their fault, but they deserve (as do campers) a properly maintained site.
