This campsite is just to the north of England's capital in the home county of Hertfordshire, with the bright lights of London in easy reach.
The secluded, woodland setting of our Theobalds Park Club campsite belies its location just inside London’s orbital M25 motorway. Although just off the M25 the campsite is in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside. The nearby Lee Valley Park will appeal to nature lovers, walkers, cyclists and fishermen. While further west woodland, grassland, heath, rivers and ponds make up the vast expanse of Epping Forest, the largest public open space in the London area.
This well laid out, level campsite offers open camping areas and a choice of grass and hard stand pitches. Modern facilities, a children’s play area and dog walk service the needs of all types of camper.
At just 15 miles from the capital this campsite is an excellent base from which to explore London. Catch a train from Waltham Cross to enjoy the city’s fantastic shopping, varied eateries and bars and landmarks such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, Olympic Park and more

This is my second visit to this site. It's really hard to believe that you are literally a few metres from the M25. Access is easy for even the largest units. We chose a pitch near the woods on the south end, Nearest the motorway so perhaps a tad noiser, than those closer to the toilet block, but great as they offered the best shade for our dogs.
Top tip: If you have a canine friend with you, or are using the train to get into the city. There is a gap in the fence at the south east corner of the site, which leads onto the riverbank. At the riverbank turn left and there's a fantastic walk for dogs, turn right walk across the bridge and follow the river to join Bulls Cross ride. Turn left and then turn right at the lights (A10), go through the underpass to catch 217 into Turnpike bus/underground station or continue on to Turkey st to catch the train to either Seven sisters tube or Liverpool St station. This shortcut shaved 20 minutes off the original 40 minute walk to the station along the road route to the site.

I used to live very near by so it has a lot of memories for me.
We like how open the site is and surrounded by trees which go some way in masking out the M25. If you are looking for silence this is not the site to stay at due to this continual sound.
The club paid a lot of money to upgrade the site facilities, but these now need some TLC and new ventilation for the shower and toilet block.
We often return to this site as it is easy to get to and close to family. Would not stay for a holiday but it could be considered as a good stop off point for longer journey's.

My son had to go into hospital for treatment in the centre of London and, as we live 130 miles away, this was an ideal location for us to use as a base to visit him daily. The site itself is neatly laid out with the only drawback being there is only one toilet/shower etc. block (however it is an excellent facility) on one side of the park involving about a 300 yard walk from the most distant pitches. The site managers, Andy & Lyn, could not have been more helpful and accommodating.
There is one concern, however - the site wi-if is terrible. I paid 10.00 for a week's access and only managed to get online for an hour (I am currently requesting a refund from the club but, after 10 days, have still received no response). Andy is trying to resolve the problems with the ISP but I recommend you check with Andy before paying out any money for wi-if access.
Apart from the above problem we were extremely satisfied with our stay and, when my son returns for further treatment in about 3 months, we will not hesitate to book in again.

The site is quiet with no local road noise but you can hear the hum of the M25 in the background as well as the birds tweeting. They have a small woody area to walk your dog as well as some basic groceries/supplies in Reception which is handy. The toilet/shower block is the best we've seen so far - warm, clean, good size - and the staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. In the evenings the rabbits can be seen hopping about the site and it's surrounded by trees and is in a generally peaceful spot (considering how close it is to the M25 and in-roads to London). My only minor disappointment was the children's play area which was a little on the minimalist side and since there are no ball games allowed my two boys were a little bored playing outside after 10-15 mins. The woody area helped but it would have been nice (given the amount of space) if there were a few more bits of apparatus for the kids to play on. I guess in peak season they would have happily played with other children but we did go in March so were really looking for convenience rather than somewhere to stay on-site. Would definitely recommend.
