The surrounding area

The secluded, woodland setting of our Theobalds Park Club campsite belies its location just inside London’s orbital M25 motorway. Although just off the M25 the campsite is in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside. The nearby Lee Valley Park will appeal to nature lovers, walkers, cyclists and fishermen. While further west woodland, grassland, heath, rivers and ponds make up the vast expanse of Epping Forest, the largest public open space in the London area.

At just 15 miles from the capital this campsite is an excellent base from which to explore London. Catch a train from Waltham Cross to enjoy the city’s fantastic shopping, varied eateries and bars and landmarks such as Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Tower Bridge, Olympic Park and more.

Visited Theobalds Park over the Easter school holidays 2017 for 4 nights. Chose this site as we wanted to do a number of activities around London and this site seemed to fit the bill due to its location. Check in was quick and we were able to select our own pitch. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Firstly it has to be said that there is road noise from the M25 constantly, no matter which pitch you are on. That said so long as you aren't looking for a peaceful retreat, it's not terrible and it didn't stop us sleeping in our Motorhome. The site is well maintained and the facilities spotless - site was 80%ish full when we were there. The toilet block is fairly new and one of the best I have used over the last 3 seasons of being a C&CC member. The Pied Bull Pub is walking distance from the site if you want to eat out and reasonable value. They also have a children's menu and specials nights most evening. Overall we had a good experience at this venue, but have a couple of minor comments which brought our rating down slightly: 1. Both the washing machine and dryer where out of order during our visit and unfortunately I needed to wash my sons bedding. A mop in the laundry room would be helpful, as it's hard not to spill water on the floor when washing by hand, as you are requested to! 2. There is only 1 set of bins at the top end of the site by the entrance. We did feel it would be nice if there were some at the bottom end also.

Close to m25, therefore understandably noisy. But the clubbing next to the site was even louder than the cars. :-( ok for max one night.
