Overview

Explore the Highlands from this peaceful Scottish campsite.

Our Club campsite at Dingwall sits at the head of the Cromarty Firth and is ideally located for exploring the Scottish Highlands and the wooded Black Isle.

This pretty campsite caters for all unit types; it is well laid out and level, with many pitches bounded by trees and hedges, ensuring you’re perfectly pitched to enjoy a relaxing break. The market town of Dingwall is close by offering a range of shops, a supermarket and restaurants. You can catch a train from here to Kyle of Lochlash on the West coast; a stunning route taking in some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery.

If you enjoy walking, the Dingwall Heritage Trail passes the campsite and follows the River Peffery to a picnic area on the Cromarty Firth. Head to Evanton and Fyrish Hill for other walking opportunities.

Wildlife lovers can spot dolphins at Cromarty, whilst Red Kites can be seen on the Black Isle. To view osprey, visit Udale Bay, part of the Firth shoreline where birdwatchers can also scan for waders and wildfowl.

To sample the local culture, visit the Victorian spa village of Strathpeffer with the Highland Museum of Childhood or enjoy a tasting and tour at the Black Isle Brewery, Munlochy.

Site is very well managed with very helpful staff. Spacious and midge free. Easy to access although occasional access disruption as next to Ross County FC ground. Good position for those wishing to go further north. Large supermarkets within walking distance. Railway adjacent to site and station close but no real noise issues. Nice walks nearby. Dingwall has some nice shops but seems to be "dying". Site facilities rate average to poor and are long overdue for updating. Too few showers and too little water pressure. No wash basins in cubicles. Washing up facilities limited and hot water not always available. For campers (it is the CAMPING and Caravanning Club after all), the facilities cannot be rated higher than poor. There is no shelter for cooking, only one picnic table (there used to be more), no drying room or washing line area and no room with a socket for charging appliances. Considering the cost to non-members for camping, the fees charged represent very poor value for money. None of this is the fault of the staff on site but remote administrators who, for years, have refused to invest in this site. Rumours abound of an upgrade this winter but we shall see ... I can remember when it was free to put an ice pack in the freezer or plug in a phone or shaver to recharge. That was when it was "The Friendly Club". Now it costs 1 each for a freezer pack or a recharge. This will fall disproportionately on a few campers (not me). Caravanners, those in mobile homes and those camping with electrical hook up (me) will never need to pay these charges but those just camping especially those en route from Land's End to John o' Groats will have no choice but to pay these add ons on top of the hefty camping fees. In this context, it seems more "Rip Off" than "Friendly". I wonder how much this club still values campers which is where it started. Minimum standards needed across all sites.
