Camping on the Isle of Wight – perfect for relaxing on this tiny island, just a short ferry trip from the England’s south coast.

You’ll find our Adgestone Club campsite in a quiet countryside setting on the beautiful Isle of Wight close to the popular Sandown resort.

Although a large site – 270 pitches – the site is very well laid out with some secluded pitches and is orientated towards families. Adgestone is the only Club Site with a swimming pool which is heated from June until the first week of September and a children’s paddling pool. In addition to the usual toilet/shower facilities, the site also boasts two children’s play areas – one for younger campers and another more extensive area for older children as well as table tennis, boules, outdoor chess and giant jenga. There’s also a shop and takeaway on site and a private fishing pool stocked with carp.

There numerous walking and cycling opportunities from the campsite. Beach lovers are spoilt for choice with the seaside resorts of Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Cowes and Ryde all close by. For days out Dinosaur Isle, Shanklin Chine, the Needles and Blackgang Chine shouldn’t be missed.

Adgestone Vineyard, overlooking Brading Down – itself worth exploring for its spectacular views across Culver Down and Sandown Bay - offers tours of its wine cellars and tastings. Its café serves excellent cream teas too.

We had a lovely break last week despite some poor weather.

We had a lovely break last week despite some poor weather. Had a choice of jumbo pitches and found a lovely quiet corner. Lots of hedges provide privacy and husband overjoyed to be able to fish 15m from tent! 9yr old LOVED the pool and the freedom of being able to bike all over the site and make friends in the central play area. (Would not recommend pitching near it though - quite noisy as you would expect.) Site shop was well-stocked and had long opening hours. Take-away food was appreciated during the week. Only slight down-side was some noisy neighbours - their barking dog for two nights which they did do their best to control but then music 'til nearly midnight. A bit disappointing. In the past, site staff used to do a walk-round about 20 minutes before quiet, have a chat with people and just ensure they remembered the site policy. It would be really good if this happened to avoid uncomfortable situations arising. Would have spoken to site staff but neighbours moved on the next morning. Would definitely go again though!

After an absence of 1 year I returned to find many changes and I was suprised to se the site emptier than previous years. The facilities and cleanliness remained excellent but the management was different. In the ladies toilet block by the entrance three toilets were locked all the time. The warden's office was also closed much of the time. I particularly noticed the absence of the outside blackboard which previously had daily advertised birthdays, arriving letters, and the weather! Instead there was often an out of date print off in the corner of the office window. The new reduced opening slots in the swimming pool inevitably resulted in a greater crush at opening times, and the officious way in which this was managed meant that some swimmers were called out of the pool after only half an hour. I also witnessed a parent in the pool with his two boys of approx 7-10 years being forced, who despite his protestations that his son could swim, had to allow the boy to swim a distance prescribed by a person who seemed to be the senior life-guard, to prove to her that this was the case. I was greatly saddened by the changes, and when I asked the life guard why guards where now necessary, she told me that the Camping and Caravanning club had been 'caught out' I told her that I had understood that each family was resonsible for its own children and by visiting a site with these facilites we implicity took on board that responsibility. The manager I always found friendly if less visible, but there were times when I felt that the campers were a problem for the staff ! I love the site and shall visit again, it has always in the past, been such a busy and happy place, even the year when the bottom fields flooded! I feel sorry to write such a crirical review but feel there were also others who were less than happy, who may not speak out. Thankyou for previous happy years.

Easy access to great cycle network. Easy 1/2 hour walk to Sandown beaches along footpaths. Generally a quiet site after 10pm ish. Clean all-be-it rather aging shower blocks, with occasional water pressure probs in showers. But a well laid out, grassy, largely flat site, with well stocked shop incl take away. Swimming pool manned by lifeguards in 2 hour blocks throughout the day. Staff friendly and efficient. A lovely site that we would definitely recommend and hope to come back to one day. Fully recommend Isle of Wight generally, actually - a great holiday location!

Adgestone is situated in a lovely location and is beautifully laid out for a large site. Even in peak season, it did not feel crowded. As read in most reviews here, staff are very friendly and helpful. Pool is clean and well maintained. There are three swimming periods throughout the day and the life guards take their job seriously (which is v good). They have a good system for ensuring everyone has a fair amount of time in the pool when it is busy. The shop is good, has a lot of food and camping related things for sale. We had fish and chips one night, which was good value and substantial. It is very much a family site and our kids made friends really quickly and we hardly saw them when we were on the site. The only down side, I would say is the state of the toilet/shower blocks (two). They are old and crumbling in parts. For the mens, there were 4 showers in each block. The one nearest to our pitch had a shower block out of action for the whole 10 days we were there and there were water pressure problems throughout. A number of toilets were out of action at various times too. If you wanted a shower at 8am onwards, you would have to expect to queue. Soap ran out a number of times in the dispensers and we were advised by staff to use the toilet block further away from the kids play area, as they often used them all up. Closing the blocks once a day to clean them, with that amount of people on site, probably wasn't enough. Always spent the least amount of time in there possible. Could really benefit from some modernisation, which would in turn help making them slightly more hygienic. Having said that, there are more plus points than negative ones and I would recommend it for all the good things about it.
