Overview

A great campsite to explore Canterbury, with a bus stop outside the site entrance.

City, coast and countryside – you can take your pick if you’re basing yourself at our Canterbury Club campsite. Although a popular stopover for those travelling to or from France, this campsite offers the ideal base for exploring Kent’s coast and country.

The campsite lies a couple of miles south of the city – within walking distance (or hire a bike on site). The not so energetic can catch a bus from outside the campsite. The well laid out campsite offers a mix of level grass and hardstand pitches. There are newly refurbished toilet and shower facilities, a washing up area, children’s play area and good dog walking.

Off site Canterbury is a city packed with history, heritage and culture. It has a stunning cathedral and the ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church and castle. It also has an eclectic mix of specialist shops, independent retailers, bars and restaurants.

Head to the coast for Whitstable with its trendy harbour and July Oyster Festival. The more traditional Herne-Bay has two miles of seafront adorned with colourful beach huts and a pier. The quaint Victorian town of Broadstairs with its Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides is a contrast to the more cosmopolitan habour side Ramsgate noted for its pavement cafes and waterside bars.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

Spent 8 nights here a good location with easy access into Canterbury. It is a pity that the design of the drainage in the showers is not better. I don't enjoy having the dirty water and bubbles from the next door cubicle flooding through my wash space -- how hygienic is that? With the location close to Dover there are many continental visitors --- how about some bi-lingual notices for their benefit such as a reminder on to mop out the shower? All the Wardens were very helpful, a great team. We will return to explore more of this area.

Usually the quality standard of CCC clubsites does not need further explanation.

This review is for Canterbury

Usually the quality standard of CCC clubsites does not need further explanation. It is always good to excellent. However, the team running Canterbury clubsite has exceeded my expectations in helping us out on a number of administrative matters. This team deserves extra credit for its professional and service-minded attitude. Especially since I am not easily pleased. These people have always helped us out to the detail with pleasure and humour. Chapeau!

Stayed here several times as we like the location (near to Canterbury). Good toilets / showers - they were refurbished a couple of years ago and are well maintained. Hardstanding pitches are very narrow - you can't fit both car and caravan on them. Friendly staff. Site layout isn't the best - you can end up with people pitched right behind you. In one area, the tent campers drive between and close to units to get to their area, including driving over electric cables. It's about half an hour from the Tunnel, but don't book if you have to leave before 7am because that's when the barrier is opened. If you have an early start, you will be pitched in an unsurfaced car park outside the barrier (i.e. no security). Why not have a coded barrier on this area?? It's about 40 minutes walk into Canterbury (more coming back, as it's up hill). The final lane to the site (Bekesbourne Lane) is very narrow but not very long, if you follow the directions. Be careful that you don't follow sat nav to the site as it may well bring you up from the other end of Bekesbourne Lane - which is long and narrow and winding. There is a 'blind' exit from the site which is rather awkward. Overall, a pleasant site, but it has its faults.
