Overview

A great campsite to explore Canterbury, with a bus stop outside the site entrance.

City, coast and countryside – you can take your pick if you’re basing yourself at our Canterbury Club campsite. Although a popular stopover for those travelling to or from France, this campsite offers the ideal base for exploring Kent’s coast and country.

The campsite lies a couple of miles south of the city – within walking distance (or hire a bike on site). The not so energetic can catch a bus from outside the campsite. The well laid out campsite offers a mix of level grass and hardstand pitches. There are newly refurbished toilet and shower facilities, a washing up area, children’s play area and good dog walking.

Off site Canterbury is a city packed with history, heritage and culture. It has a stunning cathedral and the ruins of St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church and castle. It also has an eclectic mix of specialist shops, independent retailers, bars and restaurants.

Head to the coast for Whitstable with its trendy harbour and July Oyster Festival. The more traditional Herne-Bay has two miles of seafront adorned with colourful beach huts and a pier. The quaint Victorian town of Broadstairs with its Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides is a contrast to the more cosmopolitan habour side Ramsgate noted for its pavement cafes and waterside bars.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite.

This is the first Camping and Caravaning site that we have stayed at.

This review is for Canterbury

This is the first Camping and Caravaning site that we have stayed at. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we had never used electric when camping before and the staff very kindly made sure we were all hooked up and working, also on seeing that we had young children they also offered us access to the family shower room. The site is beautifully clean and the facilities were warm, clean with plenty of hot water (a little step stool for younger kids would have been a great help). The site is broken up into several smaller areas surrounded by trees which gives the feel of a more natural campsite. The kids playarea is small and not really suitable for very young ones, but with plenty of green area and little woods to explore it's not really an issue. Canterbury is very close by, with great shops, walks and steeped in history. We also went to Margate which is 40 mins drive, it was a huge dissapointment! The beach is beautiful but sadly that's all it had to offer on a Sunday. We are booked to stay at another Camping and Caravaning Club site later this year, which after this experience, has a lot to live up to!

Just come back from the Bank Holiday Weekend stay at the Canterbury Site.

Just come back from the Bank Holiday Weekend stay at the Canterbury Site. The welcome was pleasant as you could expect and everyone helpful. Arriving about 5pm on the Friday meant we had a choice of pitches which was nice. I think we probably had the best pitch on site. The site is situated conveniently for Canterbury, a pleasant walk that only takes 20 mins and is well stocked with a variety of shops, as well as the Cathedral. There is also various camping or activity shops should you need them. The site is generally very clean and well kept, apart from one or two small annoyances of a few fellow campers not adhering to the signage, so no fault of the site. There are numerous rabbits and birds around the site which really makes it a countryside site. The only downside is the power lines that run over the camp, which out of preference I would have like to have known about. I may not have booked it if I had, which would have been a shame as it is a nice site and one I would recommend.

Lots of historic places to visit from Roman,Norman,Viking to present day.Was disappointed with the tunnels at Dover Castle. And Margate and Ramsgate are very run down.Nicer towns to visit further down towards Hastings.

The site is ideally located to visit Canterbury and the staff were very welcoming.

The site is ideally located to visit Canterbury and the staff were very welcoming. I was informed in advance that as I was leaving before 7am I would have stay in the car park due to restrictions on the site barrier. I fullt appreciate the need for security AND I was informed in advance where I would have to park. However if the club wishes to take advantage of people usinf the site for cross channel crossing then they should address this issue. A not very good park is not a very good alternative and I was charged ful site fees. ALSO the club still has the antiquated mind-set of not allowing one nights stay...come on club start offering what people want!. I recognise that this policy was implemented to prevent someone not being able tpo have an erxtended stay because someone has just booked one night. BUT I am an member and if I want one nigt then I should be able to book for one night, unless money making is the clubs prime objective and not providing a service. I say this not intending to be selfish but to illustrate that on my visit ten site was only half full at most, so some discretion could have been afforded to the site manager, instead of pushing me in a car park.
