Overview

Camp at our secluded site in Kent, the Garden of England.

Our Oldbury Hill Club campsite is located in an idyllic spot within Styants Wood, opposite the Iron Age fort of the same name in Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a lovely open, all grass campsite. Pitches are sloping but our friendly Holiday Site Managers provide chocks as required.

The area is ideal for walkers. Two way-marked circular walks pass over Oldbury Camp, the large Iron Age Hill fort. The hill is now covered with woodland managed by the National Trust. You can also walk from the campsite to Ightham Mote, a medieval moated manor house with a 14-acre garden and restaurant.

It’s a short car journey to Knole, a National Trust run English country house set in a deer park; Penshurst Palace and Gardens; the National Trust run Chartwell, family home of Winston Churchill; the beautiful Emmetts Garden and Hever Castle and Gardens.

You can also visit London by train from Borough Green and Sevenoaks stations.

Staff are lovely, friendly and hard working.

This review is for Oldbury Hill

Staff are lovely, friendly and hard working. The site, however, was a disappointment for the following reasons: * No access to woodland from inside the site as it is fenced off. The photos and blurb give a wrong impression about that. There is access across the road opposite the gate but one is soon confronted by a steep hill which only fit hikers would climb. Instead, turn right at gate and you'll shortly have access to beautiful woodland walks on both sides of road (take care, no pavement) * The amenity block is in dire need of modernisation. Hot water is not guaranteed and we always missed it. I had same experience as previous reviewer of dog running loose in there with kids with walky talkies On the plus side, we had perfect TV reception and there are interesting places to visit within a few miles radius.

The welcome is warm, helpful and friendly.

The welcome is warm, helpful and friendly. The toilets and showers are dated and could use an update. Question: why should a dog go along into the shower together with the kids??? We would recommend the site especially when you like to visit London. Also the surroundings are beautiful and lovely to walk. Go visit the pub The Crown in Otford and enjoy your meal and drink(s). It is the second time that we are at Oldbury hill and we definitly like to come back here in a few years time.

field surrounded by woodland. We chose a pitch at the top of the field as we like to be near the shower blocks. The field is sloped but we were soon sorted out with blocks by the very very helpful site managers martin and ellenor. The shower block is very basic but was kept clean. We were originally staying for 3 nights but because the weather was so beautiful ended up staying for 5. Plenty of national trust places around so made use of our memebership. PLEASE NOTE. Although the brochure says poor TV reception it is in fact very good. Could do with some hard standing pitches

We were given a friendly welcome by the site wardens who helped us pitch so we were as level as possible. We were part of a group of 4 families and although we were advised at the time of booking that it couldn't be guaranteed that we would all be together, on arrival this was arranged without fuss. The site itself is lovely and we all enjoyed a walk in the nearby woods and a meal at the nearby pub within walking distance. The only thing letting this site down is the toilet block which is not up to the usual camping and caravan club standards. The site managers apologised for it and it was clean but times have moved on since it won loo of the year in 2007 as displayed on the wall!
