Overview

Camp at our secluded site in Kent, the Garden of England.

Our Oldbury Hill Club campsite is located in an idyllic spot within Styants Wood, opposite the Iron Age fort of the same name in Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is a lovely open, all grass campsite. Pitches are sloping so chocks will be required.

The area is ideal for walkers. Two way-marked circular walks pass over Oldbury Camp, the large Iron Age Hill fort. The hill is now covered with woodland managed by the National Trust. You can also walk from the campsite to Ightham Mote, a medieval moated manor house with a 14-acre garden and restaurant.

It’s a short car journey to Knole, a National Trust run English country house set in a deer park; Penshurst Palace and Gardens; the National Trust run Chartwell, family home of Winston Churchill; the beautiful Emmetts Garden and Hever Castle and Gardens.

You can also visit London by train from Borough Green and Sevenoaks stations.

This is a lovely site with welcoming wardens.

This review is for Oldbury Hill

This is a lovely site with welcoming wardens. It is in a clearing in an ancient woodland near the site of an Iron Age hill fort so there are plenty of walks directly from the site. The site itself is peaceful with only the sound of birdsong. The facilities are spotless and clean with two blocks for men and two blocks for women plus dishwash, laundry etc If you are a NT member, there are many places to visit. Ightham Mote is a 2 mile walk from the site and Chartwell, Quebec House and other NT sites are a short car ride away. We will be back!

Oldbury Hill is a small site in a clearing in a wood.

This review is for Oldbury Hill

Oldbury Hill is a small site in a clearing in a wood. The site is very quiet, despite being well-located. We must have stayed 4 or 5 times in recent years. There is a small playpark on site (similar to other sites) and site shop open first and last thing (again similar opening times to other sites). The washing facilities are clean and whilst not brand new, look to have been recently repainted. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and it was a pleasure to come back for another visit. The site is sloping, and because there is quite a steep slope in the middle of the field it limits the density of units and so even when full (as it was when we have visited the last couple of times) the site doesn't feel at all crowded. There are woodland trails across the lane from the site entrance and several National Trust properties within the area, including Ightham Mote (just a couple of miles away and can be walked from the site); a few miles away is Knole, and a few miles further Chartwell, Quebec House and Emmetts. A few miles away is Sevenoaks with local shops. We drove a few miles to the village of Otford and had a beautiful 5 mile walk walked to Eynsford, past Lullingstone Castle and Roman Villa, and then got the train back to Otford. There is a small railway station about a mile away, which was very convenient when one of our party joined us later by train, as we could quickly pick them up without having to go to the station in Sevenoaks. We have always stayed at Oldbury Hill with our two children and they really enjoy visiting. As we've always visited during school holidays they make lots of friends. We love the peace of the site. Even on a full bank holiday weekend it was so quiet. We are looking forward to going back again.

The facilities were very clean and quiet. Beautiful scenery with plenty of walks.

The facilities were very clean and quiet. Beautiful scenery with plenty of walks. Local pub with good food and friendly staff. Farm shop within walking distance and interesting houses up the same lane. First night the sound of an owl and next morning a wood pecker. Oldbury Hill is a warren of walking paths with tall trees and surprising vegetation. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes peace and quiet with a twist of nature. Thank you to Di and Tracey for all your help. Very much appreciated.

We have stayed on this site in both dry and wet weather, when it is wet it gets very muddy.

This review is for Oldbury Hill

We have stayed on this site in both dry and wet weather, when it is wet it gets very muddy. It really would benefit from some hard standing. The toilets are starting to show their age but are very clean; again they could do with a bit of an upgrade. We cannot praise Di and Tracy enough, several times the put themselves out to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We will definitely be returning to this site.
