    Top site for beaches

Enjoy coast and countryside from this popular north Norfolk site near Cromer.

You can get a feel for the beautiful and varied Norfolk coast and countryside from our Club campsite at West Runton.

Our pretty and spacious campsite commands a secluded location close to the quaint seaside village with which it shares its name. Trees surround this beautifully maintained site. Facilities include roomy showers, a parent and child room, laundry and washing up area and a lovely dog walk.

Just a short walk from the campsite brings you to the quaint fishing village of West Runton. Its sandy beach is perfect for sunbathing while the plentiful rock pools are waiting to be explored.

For more sandy beaches, piers and promenades Sheringham, Cromer (both within walking distance of the campsite) and Caister-on-Sea tick the boxes.

A mile south of West Runton, Beacon Hill is the highest point in Norfolk. Scale the dizzy height of 300ft and you’ll be rewarded with views over the countryside and coast.

For nature lovers Blakeney Point is a must. This mix of dune, marsh and shingle is home to seals and a variety of birds. Catch a ferry from Mortson Quay to see them. There are more animals to be seen at the Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary and the Norfolk Shire Horse Centre close to the campsite.

Ready Camp is available at this campsite. (Please note that, although we welcome dogs on this site, in the interest of all guests we do not permit pets to stay within the Ready Camp tents).

This site needs more money spent on it ie Hard standing pitches, very disappointed to see the monstrosity of 3 ready camp which has spoilt this site. Like all sites some pitches needed for disabled people near to the disabled toilets.

All the site amenities are very good and kept clean by the friendly site staff. I'd read that site entry/exit was a bit tricky but I found it to be okay towing a 7.3m caravan with an estate car in wet weather and I'm still new to towing. Walks (with or without dogs) are numerous and great from this site, through woodland or coastal paths. We only used the car once all week (to visit Wells, which is worth the drive) and still left with plenty of walks to return to another time. To reach Cromer on foot is 1.5 miles of easy walking. We had a lovely day walking to Sheringham (3.5 miles on the costal path and with great views) then taking the steam train to Holt. We will return to this site.

I understand that these comments might not get published but I wanted to comment on my experience at this site. Everything was totally fine except the welcome I got from one member of staff. I have a white van that has been converted into a motorhome, it has everything that is required and has been inspected and reclassified by the DVLA as a motorhome. I was shown into the site by a lovely helpful man but a lady came out of reception and in front of me looked at my van and full of distaste said to the man 'Whats that?' He said 'A motorhome', the reply: 'It hasn't got any windows' To which the man and myself replied 'Yes it has its on the other side' She then asked very abruptly 'Has it got a fixed bed?' Yes I replied and went onto explain about the DVLA etc. I was then allowed in. Her manner was unbelievably rude. I understand the criteria for converted motorhomes and the need for these rules but the lady could have checked the other side of my van or asked very politely and friendly about my van instead of talking about it in front of me in a very derogatory manner. My van is only 3 years old and cost a considerable amount of money to have a bespoke conversion by a professional company so it is by far some rusty old banger with a mattress on the floor! My visit to West Runton was my first visit using my Camping and Caravanning Club membership and after that experience I have no desire to use my membership again or to renew it.
