    Top site for fishing

A rural campsite near the city of the Norfolk Broads.

A city campsite with a rural feel describes our Norwich Club campsite. It commands a beautiful spot next to a river with walks and fishing along the banks. Its back-to-nature feel is enhanced by a small holding with chickens and geese right next door.

It’s a fairly secluded and quiet campsite and well laid out with 50 grass pitches and well maintained facilities.

This campsite is in easy reach of the city of Norwich by bike, a lovely walk along the old railway line or by bus which stops a quarter of a mile from the site. Norwich is famed for its castle and cathedral and it has more medieval churches than any other city in Western Europe. Four large malls will satisfy the fussiest shopper and there are numerous places to eat and drink.

There are walking and cycling opportunities in Whitlingham Country Park, one-and-a-half miles from the campsite. And, as well as being a haven for wildlife, there’s also a watersports centre offering windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.

The Norfolk Broads, Britain’s largest protected wetland, is within easy reach of the campsite and is home to some of the country’s rarest plants and wildlife.

Worth Noting

If approaching from Long John Hill there is a railway bridge of 2.9 meters height limit. If concerned you should approach via Mansfield Lane instead, continue to the mini roundabout opposite the Cock Inn Pub, then turn Left and then immediate right onto Martineau Lane.

Access to the riverbank for fishing during the fishing season (16 Jun to 6th Nov). Current Environment Agency rod licence is required. The river can get very weedy in summer months.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available. Prices.

Eat Local

There is a farmers’ market in Gentlemans Walk in Norwich city centre on the first and third Sundays of the month.

Access details shown in book are not suitable for most motorhomes due to low bridges.

This review is for Norwich

Access details shown in book are not suitable for most motorhomes due to low bridges. Neither is there a motorhomes service point which is a shame as over 50% of outfits when we were there were in this category. The sanitary facilities are not up to usual club standard. There was a lot of road and particularly train noise. The site is well placed for local supermarkets and access into Norwich centre which is really interesting

This site is lovely right next to the river.

This site is lovely right next to the river. On arrival the warden were fantastic so helpful and friendly. We got put in a great spot looking over the campsite. There is a train line behind the site this is very annoying at 1.30am when the trains are still running. The facilities could do with a refurb but clean and usable. There is plenty to around the area.

Friendly and helpful staff who keep the facilities very clean.

Friendly and helpful staff who keep the facilities very clean. There were only two female showers and no sink cubicles so basic but serviceable. No playground so fewer families stay here so kids were bored. Situated between two rail tracks and under flight path near busy roads so it is a city break experience rather than a rural idyll. Personally, it wasn't for me and it doesn't compare to other club sites that offer more for families.
